Readying my free submission and asking for advice...........

Should I send in vintage commons so I have no grading fees invested in them, or send in stars? I'm leaning towards this combination:

57 Sonny Jurgenson RC

61 Don Maynard RC

61 Brooks Robinson Sporting News All-Star

56 Topps Chuck Harmon (common)

56 Topps Eddie O'Brien (common)

56 Topps Dixie Howell (common)

Stay classy,

Ron

I've seen a lot of people here talk about free subs coming back with lower than expected grades, also keep in mind those free ones are good for the $500/less cards. Maybe scan the ones you're thinking of sending and have some of the real sharp guys here take a look?

I would do stars as you can do the commons when a special comes around. I don't think the graders know if they are grading a freebie grade from a voucher if someone paying full price. I just used my 6 free ones for crossovers for more expensive cards and the grades assigned were fair.

I used to send in vintage commons or minor stars till I realized that I could send cards in valued up to $500 so this was my results of my last free sub.I was not dissapointed except maybe for the Jackie Robinson.I will continue this pattern in the future.

    Highest-value cards are best.

Cheap ones can go on the specials.

    Yep.

Then save up your commons and send them in bulk!

I always do one year memberships just to send in the 6 most expensive cards of that year. I rarely submit anything other than the specials and it allows me to send in 6 solid card and not just commons. I dont think they grade them different than other subs, but I did get tough results on my most recent sub. But it goes both ways.

I think I'm going to send in the two football cards and 4 stars/minor stars from 61 Topps that I overpaid for. I don't want any more money invested in those four cards so I might as well get them slabbed for free.

Can you include crossovers as part of your free submission?
