Question about Reggie White rookie card

Why is it that his rookie for the HOF rc set is the 1984 Topps USFL while his rc for the Team of the 90's is his 1986 Topps. I think it's ridiculous to have to buy 2 differrent rookies for 2 sets in the same registry. Would anyone have a problem if I e-mailed Cosetta and had her hold a poll?

The verdict was that since the NFL Team of the Decade is selected strictly, 100%, by what they did while playing in the NFL their NFL rookie card should be used.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame primarily only uses NFL play to judge players by, but they CAN choose to consider Reggie White's USFL days or Warren Moon's CFL days to argue their merits. Hence the USFL cards inclusion in the HOF RC set. The CFL cards aren't included because they aren't considered mainstream issues.
Unfortunately, there is no PSA rule that all key card sets must coincide with each other. For the sets that I actually requested to be added to the Registry, I always tried to keep the same cards, as the criteria for the sets are basically the same. But in some cases, and this is one of them, the criteria is slightly different based on the set parameters. Look at the Heisman Trophy set and tell me what the parameters are??I never could figure that one out...lol
The last thing I ever want to see is cards removed from sets. What you do is make collectors who have already purchased the 1986 Reggie White card feel uneasy about the Key Card and HOF Registry sets they collect. Who's to say another collector doesn't come along next year with an idea to change others cards that you had already purchased? This happened with Kurt Warner getting pulled from the QB set. Fact is, he should have never been added, but he was, and I still hated to see the card get pulled, because then everyone who owned it, now had a card that no one collecting on the Registry wanted or needed.
But you're free to do what you feel you need to do. I would vote absolutely no to any change that wasn't 1,000,000% necessary and this one is not IMO.

I really think that a player should have one card to be registered for all "All Time", "HOF" or "Team of the Decade" type sets. Otherwise, it will be crazy especially w/ all the newer cards that are being issued. Just imagine, if Tomlinson had the Topps Chrome for the All TIme RB set, Bowman Chrome for Team of the 2000's, and SP Authentic (or whatever) for the HOF rc set.
If you remember, there was a debate after Jim Kelly was elected whether his USFL or 87 Topps card should be added. Before that point, it was assumed the regular Topps cards would be added for Kelly, White and Young however the vote turned out that the USFL cards would be added. My view is that White's Topps card was added before the vote and was never changed after it was determined that his USFL card would be the main card for the USFL set.
I really, really think that a rule should be established whereby one card is chosen for all the specialty sets without exception.

Different sets require different cards. Why would Reggie White's XRC be used for the NFL Team of the Decade sets when that team is chosen from strictly NFL players and which ones were the best of the decade at their positions in the NFL? Especially since he has a card that is considered his regular rookie from his first NFL year.
As far as Tomlinson goes, how about this sceanrio...We add the Topps Chrome Tomlinson to the All-Time rushers set next year (2008) since at the time it is the most popular/value that meets the requirements for the set. Then, 10 years later when Tomlinson goes into the HOF, his Bowman Chrome is considered the most valuable/popular in 2018..Do you still add the Topps Chrome simply because its in the All-time rushers set? Even though it isnt considered the most valuable anymore??? Or do you screw over all the guys who already purchsed the Topps Chrome by deleting it from the All-Time rushers set and changing to the Bowman Chrome instead?
Me personally, I dont want to see anyone get screwed over. If the Topps Chrome card is the best right now, we add it. If the Bowman Chrome is his best card in 2018, we add it to the HOF RC set and leave the Topps Chrome in the All-Time rushers set. Thats my opinion. You always have the option of simply not purchasing the 2nd card. But we shouldn't make a switch that drains the confidence in the collectors of the sets. It would ruin the sets. The cards that are listed NOW, should always remain, and not have the rug pulled out from the guys who have already invested in the current cards. Staying the course galvanizes each collection in that we will never have to worry about a card that we have purchased becoming useless for the Registry. Wouldn't be fair to everyone.
Just my opinion of course,

Personally I do not like that there are different cards of each player in different sets...but, I too would be a little pi$$ed off if I was now left holding the bag on some low-pop card that was no longer needed in the registry. Imagine all the copies that would hit eBay with no interest from registry participants... Ugh. I do like the idea of having one card flow through, but as each sets requirements evolve and a players "acceptance" into said sets is reached, the rule is to include the most valuable at the time.
I was always curious about the USFL cards though since they were only issued in a set form and I was of hte understanding the print runs were quite a bit more scarce than the NFL based Topps counterparts. Personally, I really like the USFL cards and the fact they are more difficult to obtain, particularly in high grade but it is kind of odd to have a HOF card of a guy pictured in a different league with a team that no longer exists.
Just my .02 of course.
