Worse Superbowl ever?

Rex, you are who we thought you were.

Signed, NFC fans.

This was, by far the worse Superbowl I've ever watched. The opening kickoff was great, but then, blah...

I have to agree; and to make it worse, even the commercials have stunk!image

    STeve
  • not the worse ever.
  • This makes 2 championship games within a month where a team returns the opening kickoff for a TD and then loses handily.

Yeah. I yawned a couple of times. No surprises in this one. Everyone knows whom ever won the AFC game two weeks ago was going to be the SB winner. Peyton finally gets the monkey off his back.

I just couldn't believe how bad the first "critical" INT Grossman threw . ...... was like he used the wrong arm? What a dying duck that was.

No way. Just about every Super Bowl from 1984 to 1995 was a total dog (save a couple). Super Bowl XX, for instance, was some of the worst prime time programming of all time.

This one wasn't great by any means, but I thought it was better than last year's.

Of course the real football season ended in Tempe last month anyway.

The point is understood but actually this was a very entertaining, hard fought football game, played in tough weather conditions.

It was not a terrible game. Nothing like those old 49'er vs Charger type games. Those were yawners early in the second quarter ....

I thought it was a stinker too. Too many turnovers, conservative play calling, and a lack of stellar plays. Great coaching by Dungy though. Offense & Defense were ready for the Bears in every way, and he didn't let Hester hurt him twice by making adjustments. 4 backup D linemen in at the end. Just wasn't particularly enjoyable (and I like smashmouth football).

You guys are nuts. That was one of the most entertaining Superbowls I've ever watched, and I don't like either team. From the first play to the botched field goal to fumbles every 2 minutes, it kept me watching the whole game. A crappy game is when teams keep burning 8 minutes off the clock with 3 yard runs and then eventually punt leaving the final score at 10 to 7. This game was great.

I was surprised though at just how bad Grossman is. I doubt he'll be a starter next year. Also the Bears D wasn't as good as I thought either. They're good but not like the 2000 Ravens good.

i thought it was better than some in the past blowouts. what was up with the dungy challenge about 12 players on the field???

    Thanks,

The Bears were awful. Plain and simple just awful. Grossman was beyond awful.

    image
  • It was pretty entertaining, and yes, Grossman was gross, man. He's terrible.

Good to see Manning and Dungy win their rings - though the Manning critics will now say 'well he's not the reason they won'. That guy can never win with some people.
  • The conditions were brutal. I wouldn't mind seeing all future super bowls played in domes.

I may not have the history availably (I'm 25), but the entire night blew. The game was lame. PRINCE!? Why was Prince covering a 1 year old Foo Fighters song? Even my wife, a diehard Colts fand, showed almost no emotion when the Colts had the game in hand in the 4th quarter. That was the least amount of emotion I have ever seen out of a team that just won the Superbowl. They acted like it was a week 3 win against the Texans. And the commercials weren't all that great.

Why did I get excited for this game?

  • Not the worst. I agree with Boo. There was a string for a while there while the name should have been the Super Blow(out).

The whole Super Bowl thing is ridiculous. Most people who watch don't even know whats going on.

The NFL playoffs are almost always much more entertaining than the Championship game. Those are where all the barn burners have been.

    Rex is bad.

Huh? You really think so? I guess when your audience is as large as it is, there is going to be good number who don't. But please don't make baseless accusations like this.

I'd buy that. And please, don't dare skin to come up with stats to support his claim.

    Because he will.

I got invited to no parties for the super bowl this time around. I like the parties better than the actual game. The commercials and half time show are also awesome. Sorry, just being honest.

I thought the game was pretty weak too. It was not very exciting after the first quarter or so and too many turnovers to not consider this
a sloppy game. Being an 80's music fan I definitely enjoyed Prince for sure!

The game had the most exciting first quarter that I could remember and was a 2 point game at half. I forget but something like the last 6 superbowls were 0-0 at the end of 1 quarter.

Does anyone remember 55-10 Niners over Broncos? 52-17 Cowboys over Bills? This wasn't even close to being the worst SB ever...
  • It wasn't necessarily the worse game as far as one team getting smeared, but it may have been the Super Bowl with the 2 most mediocre teams in it. At least in the blowout games one of the teams were really good.

This has been the case for the last ten or so Super Bowls, salary cap=mediocre teams in the championship. This is what the fans want , enjoy!

So many drama queens. image I enjoyed the game, Indy put an a$$whoopin on my Bears, even though I live in Indiana. Glad to see Indy win one and hopefully the Bears, especially Grossman learned somethings that will payoff in years to come.

The weather was awful for a Super Bowl, I think the outcome might have been the same but the play was effected to much by the rain, they need to schedule these games in domes from now on. IMO the game was not all that bad but certainly not as good as the AFC championship game.

Good for Manning, now he is one less great QB who has the so-called monkey off his back that was issued to him by foolish skeptics.

This was the first time in 41 years that it rained for a Super Bowl. Keep the games outside...

Actually, the weather is what kept the game somewhat close (on the scoreboard, anyway). If this game was played in dry conditions, the Colts might have put this one away at the half - and then you would really see people complaining about a lopsided game.
    image
  • I think it would definitely have been a blowout if it was dry.

Likely that opening kickoff doesn't go back, and I saw Peyton lose his footing several times.

One thing that concerns me: while rex's criticisms are valid, where's the blame train for the Chicago D? I mean they got owned all night long, giving up 430 yards, and I have yet to hear anyone bash them? They are the reason the Bears' offense never got into a rhythm, they're the reason Grossman went nearly a full hour (real time) without having the ball in his hands (end of the first half to halfway though the third quarter). The defense was blown out of the water, yet they are not being held accountable at all. Is it fear of injuring the rep of glory boy urlacher? Who knows, but it stinks.

I agree that the Bears D stunk as much as Grossman. I think Bears fans have too much pride in their D to really say to much about them.

Absolutely - the Bears D stunk, and was as much to blame as Grossman was. Grossman made the noteworthy mistakes, but how often was he on the sidelines, watching Addai and Rhodes run right through and over the Bears vaunted D? That defensive unit was positively embarrassed on Sunday, especially as they came in with a big reputation.
