Could this card be trimmed?

What is BVG's reputation for grading cards? If I buy this I'd cross it over to PSA, but I'd hate for it to come back trimmed.

looks tilted (very slightly from the side borders) and oc but not trimmed imo. the top corners look like normal wear so i'll say not trimmed. really difficult to tell from the scan

    Thanks,

The old BVG was pretty decent - that card doesn't look trimmed to me. If you buy it low enough to cover the cost of cross over and you're still below SMR for a 6, I'd say you're doing pretty well.

Can you tell from the holder if this is the old BVG?

Before they started "BVG", they just had BGS on all holders, I believe.

Edited to add: I've had a few crossovers (crackouts) from BVG to PSA come back trimmed. But that Gibson does not looked trimmed to me.

  • if its in a BGS, it definately could be trimmed, nothing would surprise me with them.....
  • I sent a few cards to BVG for grading before switching to PSA, and IMO they were solid. It doesn't look trimmed and I would be very surprised if it didn't cross. On a side note, I have sent several cards sent to PSA that came back trimmed and I really doubted their opinion on the card and resent and VIOLA! slabbed and graded. Busted out SGC cards that have come backed trimmed as well from PSA, but I would still say they are legit. Trimming sucks and sometimes its just a crap shoot.
  • How do we know this is the old BVG? They did away with half grades, correct??
  • fandango, do you really think that psa is any better then beckett when grading trimmed or altered cards???? I would wager that their are more altered cards in psa holders then there are in beckett holders.......

  • it is the "new" bvg, you can tell by the lack of subgrades in the front (or back) and because the card id # is on the front. the "old" bvg had the subs on the back.

These are a few cards I sent into BGS/BVG a couple of years ago before I finally had it with them and got a PSA membership. The sub-grades are on the front with this vintage flip.

It's off-center left to right, but I doubt if it's been trimmed. If it was, it must have been a very good job, as Beckett didn't detect it. I haven't personally seen a trimmed card in a BVG holder. They reject quite a few trimmed vintage cards, and they charge for the rejection, so it's not in their vested interest to slab alterred cards in any event.

By OC, you guys mean that it won't be a PSA 10? You do realize that the L/R centering does fall within the specs of a PSA 9 centering (61/39), right?
  • The corners are soft. 7 at best, regardless of the centering.

Anything worse than 50/50 is off-center in my opinion.
