Ira & Larry Goldberg Auctions

Has anyone participated in one of their auctions? If so, how about some feedback? Thanks!

I have successfully bid on their auctions and have been very happy with the coins received and the customer service. I suggest you bid thru their site and pay the 15% buyers fee rather than bid thru ebay and pay 20%.

I've only participated minimally in their sales over the past few years but they were the best ones imo. I like to think it's more of a mom and pop operation than the other biggie auction houses. They get some very nice, unpicked-over fresh consignments. To my knowledge they don't play the upgrade game. They just put out coins as they get them. There are likely some nice cherry picks to be had in all their sales. When they were Superior Auctions from the 1970's to 1990's the Goldbergs had some great stuff.

You are right, The owners, Ira and Larry Goldberg,

are hands on people. They gather the collections,

write the catalogues, handle the auctions and solve

the problems personaly. There is no army of mid

management to get in the way. When you deal with them,

you are dealing with the bosses.

  • Yep, I've won a couple of items in their auctions. Good stuff, and I always find that they have interesting material in their catalogues.

I've always been happy with my interactions with them - and I agree that they tend to handle some pretty interesting things.

Doug Winter wrote a blog where he critiqued all of the auction houses. I used to dismiss the Goldbergs until Winter had some positive things to say about them. Now I give their auctions a second look.

Their pre-Long Beach sale has a lot of early copper cataloged by CVM. It's an important sale.

<< <i>If you have issues, you can always speak to Glenn-he gets things done! >>

I second that!!! Glenn is a great guy!!!!

Their images are on the exagerated side IMO.

The owners are not the most pleasant guys in the world. (from my experience)

They do come up with some neat coins from time to time. I also notice some coin retreads in their auctions which have circulated through other auctions.
