Just slightly O/T.... Fantasy Baseball?

I started this thread to see if anyone here had an interest in starting a fantasy baseball league on Yahoo (or where ever.) I play in a couple of fantasy football leagues, but I can't seem to drum up enough interest locally.

Although playing for money is considered gambling, and that's highly illegal...

... I've heard that some people do that. If not, maybe each person could contribute a graded card for a "pot" the winner at the end of the season?

So what do you guys think?

I used to like Yahoo, but the public leagues would have 70% dropout and I could never get enough for a large private league.

I would set a date and time now so we can mark off the calendar.

I'd be interested depending on the format. Several years ago I did SmallWorld, which was bought out by The Sporting News. Their salary cap, stock-market based game is fun, but very time consuming. It's a daily grind for six months, and I just don't have the time to devote to that anymore. If it's a matter of needing to update my roster once a week, then I'm in.

Sounds like there's plenty of interest.

I've played either head-to-head or rotisserie (mmmm.... chicken), and I'm open to either.

I think rotisserie would be slightly less demanding, as the difference in head to head games can be making that last minute change and getting an extra stolen base or something.

Thinking of doing a standard, 12 team, 5 x 5 format, (BA, HR, RBI, SB, R & W, S, ERA, WHIP, K) as that is the most standard. Not sure about the number of players, but the yahoo leagues I've played in before, I think the default (20? 22?) was about right.

The Yahoo leagues aren't active yet... I was thinking about doing a draft during the first/second week of March, after spring training is in full tilt. I do have to determine a date before I create the league, if I recall correctly.

This sounds like it'll be fun!

And if there's enough interest, maybe there could be two leagues going.

I've played with 16 teams before, and the last 5 rounds of that draft are TOUGH.

It's nothing but middle relievers, 4th outfielders, and 5th pitchers... A lot of "who?" moments?

We could play it just like my days playing magic where everyone antes a 20$ card or something. Send them to the league GM and divide up the prizes to the top 5 or something like that.

I'd like to make one suggestion. Allow for daily lineup changes. With weekly lineup changes, there's nothing worse than having a guy get injured on Monday and not being able to do anything about it.

The Yahoo site isn't up yet. It probably will open up around spring training. I'll run down the rules, and make changes before I start everything up...

I would love to get in. I like the $20 graded card idea and then give say 6 to the winner, 4 to second place and 2 to third place. Let the winner have his choice of the first six, then the second place guy and third place gets the two left over.

Just a suggestion, if we have enough people to do multiple leagues, we might want to set up both league formats. Personally I'd like to get in a head-to-head but would play both. I play too many anyway, so what would one more be.

Registration begins on 2/15. I'll get the league signed up and PM the league info to you.

I'm going to target a date in the first two weeks of March for the draft. Most likely, it will be a weekday night.

Id be in for the second league, however, if the winner gets PSA graded cards i might have to buy one on the bay for the winner or work something else out, im a raw collector and have only 1-2 graded cards.

Just a thought, if the winners get cards, it will have to be 5-3-1 instead of 6-4-2 unless you want the winner buying cards also.

Yep. Just one more needed to fill up league #2. Yahoo says that signup starts today but it's not available yet. I'll keep checking it and PM everyone when the league is ready to go.

I set up league 2 for us that were too late for league 1 and we're just about ready to go - just waiting on 2 members to set up their teams. Looks like EAsports should be setting up league 1 and I'm surprised he hasn't yet. It was a pretty easy process.
