Determining The Definitive RC...

Is there a general hobby consensus on the definitive (or at least most desirable) Albert Pujols RC? Not one of those fancy autos that run around six grand. From my persuals of ebay it would appear the SP or SP limited? Thanks.

I'd say (and eBay sales seems to support this) the SP is his definitive mainstream rookie. I sure hope so, because after doing some research I went out and bought one!

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Yes, it appears to be SP. I know I'm getting old, but for some
reason I can't find SP Limited? He has a card in Leaf Limited, but
it's a jersey RC. Another strong non-auto RC is his Ultimate Collection.

I think it's sad that it has come to this.
    To many sets. All junk
  • Bowman Chrome. Yes it was a redemption auto but is part of the "mainstream" set.

I caved and bought the Pujols SP in BGS 10, which was half what one person wanted for the SP limited in 9.5. And yes, it is sort of absurd; it's the same card with diff't serial #'s. I'm 30, and I recall the days when guys had a TRUE RC. Brett regular and Mini, Eddie Murray, Henderson, it was so simple. After 81 we had more choice (The 84 Fleer Update, or Mattingly's Donruss vs Fleer vs Topps), but today the choice is numbing and daunting. In an effort to create more options for the consumer the companies have gone too far and created a veritable swamp through which we must wade. It took me an hour just to figure out how many variations and permutations of rookies there were for A-Rod, Pujols, and even worse, the prospects of today. It seems the card companies today manufacture rarity to the point where it seems so forced, such a gimmick. Red, Orange, Blue, X-refractors? Magenta plates? It's a joke; you shouldn't run out of breath saying a card's name aloud, but try, say, a '2006 Bowman Sterling Auto Rainbow Refractor Mystery Pack Elite Prospect Blah Blah Blah.' I long for: 'BRETT MINI ROOKIE.' '78 Molitor.' You spend a grand and aren't even certain you bought the definitive RC. The comparitive analysis today between a prospect's 90 different cards is staggering when compared to the old choice between buying a Gooden Fleer Update, Traded, or just the regular 85 issues. When the make a card with a microchip in it, I'm out.

Just wait 10 years and they will all have the same value. Why buy it now? Look at all the once hot rookie cards bf albert.
Only going down. hot now not later.

The 01 Bowman Chrome that sells for so much (ltd to 500 I believe), was that available in packs/boxes or was it some type of special mail-in, etc.?

The 01 BC Pujols was a redemption.
