NFL Network to replay broadcast of Super Bowl III on Saturday night

The NFL network will replay NBC's broadcast of 1969 Super Bowl III at 8 PM this Saturday night.

This super bowl is famous for the Joe Namath "guarantee" of a victory over the heavily favored Baltimore
Colts.

This is interesting to watch on a couple of levels - to see the style of play the NFL had back then and how
much TV technology and graphics have changed over the past 38 years.

If anyone wants to bet on the Colts let me know.
  • Is this a "sign" that the current Colts are going to be upset <cue evil laugh>

I think the current line is Colts -18. I'm offering Colts -27

Cool! The goalposts were still on the goal line then!

I read that of the first five Super Bowls played, only Super Bowl III has been saved for rebroadcasting by NBC, though the film is missing Unitas's late game TD drive for the Colts only score.

USA Today mentioned Super Bowl III at 8 PM on Saturday. It might have been a last minute decision and your listings don't reflect
the change. Just a guess anyway.

Geez you guys are young, seems like yesterday I was watching the Bears beat the Giants and bloody old YA. Oh yeah that was 1963 and the Bears QB was Billy Wade, I think I prefer Rex. image The game was played in Wrigley.

Thank you for making this post. The guide had the NFL Network showing the Senior Bowl at this time. I watched a bit of the game but I did manage to tape it. From what I saw the Colts made some nice drives and than self destructed. I am looking forward to watching the game in its entirity.

Earlier in the day they had Bengals-49ers. There were a few missed plays. They missed Billups dropping an interception right before the final completion to Taylor.
  • ESPN was showing the 30 minute highlights from every superbowl last night and I suppose running up to their 3 hour pregame today.
