What do you think will happen?

I won a card for 3 and a half bucks on ebay. I just rec'd it and I sent this message to the seller (a relative newbie with 46 unique feedbacks, all positive):

Hi - I rec'd the card today. You stated: Shipping is Priority Mail $4.10.
However, I was charged $5.10 and you mailed it first class in a paper envelope with 39 cents postage. Please advise how you would like to refund the difference so I don't have to report this to ebay. Thanks,
Mark

How do you think the seller will respond?

  • Don't ya hate that?

I hope he responds, and not give you "well the card arrived
okay to you, so what's the problem?" statement like I've received.

I say a refund might be in your future.

I would be more certain of that, if the threat
to turn him into EBAY had been reserved for
the second email --- after he said "no."

Most serial postage-consters are pretty ez
to manipulate because they have a perfect
out that does not make them look evil (which
    they really are):

"I am terribly sorry. The postage mixup was an oversight.
I have refunded your PayPal account. Sorry for the inconvenience."

I'm hangin my hat on the "priority mail" thingy. He misrepresented his service. That's fraud.

Good point; however, I like to lay my cards on the table. I have found that once someone says "no", to respond with a threat of consequence that could easily have been stated up front moves the situation in a different direction. Nobody likes to be embarassed by sandbagging.

edited to add: Good one Matt.

    Here's how it ended:

REFUND HAS BEEN SENT VIA PAY PAL, SORRY ABOUT THAT IT WAS NOT DONE ON PURPOSE TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY, SO YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO TELL ON ME.

thats happened to all of us that use ebay.

how about this one. this was a first for me. i won some cards and get an email from the seller. saying that if i pay by paypal i should also add the paypal fees for him. well i didnt do that and just paid the standard price. he never mentioned it again to me. but that was the first time i ever had anyone come out and say i need to pay their fees. i thought that was a cost of doing business. or you build it in to the price.

Sellers can't state this in their listing... well they can stated it, but it's against eBay and Paypal's policy.

    Payment Surcharges

see also 4.6 in paypal's UA

    Thanks

    Hi Mark

Glad to hear that was resolved with ease.

I was ready to send the "connection" aka Wolfie and Pandrews over to this guy's house!

And they must be doing something right cause the last guy not only sent me money - but I just got his first born! image

    All's well that....

mike - lol! Wolfie would be enough, but with Perry on the flank side I wouldn't hold out much hope for anybody who crosses them two!
