<< <i>First Head. This evenly worn, pale olive-golden example still retains its fair share of muted mint frost in the more protected areas of the design. >>

For those of you that think RYK did something wrong and/or feel that STACKS did nothing wrong......can someone please point out the part in this description that states the coin has hairlines as a result of a cleaning? >>

I agree and the fact that it was BB'd for cleaning reinforces this point. The hairlines and cleaning should have been mentioned.

I think this is pretty poor work by stacks, and I would be bent if I were RYK... image

Not worth getting upset over. The great irony is that a coin like this has infinitely greater eye appeal than the huge hoard of dipped coins sitting on the market in NGC plastic.

Besides, what's the use of getting miffed over a predictable result, when in the same submission, coins from line #1, #3, #4, and #5, all cracked ouf of NGC plastic, all unpredictably went down one or two grades at PCGS. That's worth getting miffed over. imageimage

RYK---Did you agree with the NGC grades?

1 1 03971633 7693 1835 $2.50 US XF45 (ex-NGC AU-53, Mark Feld, who did not sell me this coin, thought it was accurately graded in the N53 holder)

    3 1 03971635 8210 1842-D $5 Small Date US XF45 (ex-NGC AU-50; I thought it was a liner coin)

4 1 03971636 8217 1843-O $5 Small Letters US XF40 (ex-NGC AU-50, from an ebay seller, I thought this was considerably nicer than the PCGS XF-40 that I replaced it with. I agreed with the NGC grade and so did Doug Winter)

    5 1 03971637 8264 1855-O $5 US XF45 (ex-NGC AU-50, I thought this was accurately graded as an N50)

    Update!

For those who remember the story (or want to read about it during a slow holiday week), the coin is now in an NGC XF-40 holder.

I sort of liked the picture. In sympathy, I will throw a sticker on that coin at a 40. image

So do you still own this Classic Head Example? It is a McCloskey 3B Variety.

Hard to tell from the thread so correct me if I am wrong, you sent it to PCGS they said cleaned and then you sent it to NGC and they said XF40?

I have plenty of classic heads with wipe marks in PCGS holders. Guess it was a bad day to submit.

Congrats, RYK. Many times limiting your losses feels as good as making a profit on a cherrypick.

Well, apparently you didn't get Stacks'd too badly then! image

You'd think the hits on that coin would bother you more than the hairlines

Oops! My bad. The grade came back NGC Cleaned XF-details. The email from Heritage was unclear.

Great, I just wasted time by not noticing the original thread date on this thread is 2007. Man, get a life. Geeeeesh. I guess though I shouldn't blame you as I should have taken the time to examine all of the pertinent details of the thread and then I could have made an intelligent decision as to whether or not to read the entire thread.

In the title I indicated that this is an old thread that has been updated.

There are also some lessons in the thread that are timeless.
