I won the auction to my surprise! $57 delivered , so how did I do? I'm worried the obverse will not be as nice but I decided to take the chance.
So for $57 is it a steal or a bust or somewhere inbetween?

    I thought it was Sotheby's, not "Southeby's".

The price might be a tad high for the coin itself, but you get the nice packaging. I shudder to think of what Littleton must have charged the first buyer of that- I guarantee you it was more than 57 bucks!

I think you did fine. The price, like I said, is probably a bit high for your basic London mint Edward I penny, but the hoard pedigree makes it more interesting and the packaging (frame, etc.) are a nice touch.

    I like it.

  • Sotheby's is the correct spelling. I honestly did not notice that misspelling!

Well that will irritate me enough to think twice about hanging it up as is.

Usually it is the British who add an extra "U" into words, but here's an American company adding an extra U into a British company's name! image

Don't let that stop you from hanging it up- 98% of the people who see it won't notice that.

    I think it's a handsome display.

I like it, and for the presentation I'd say it was well worth it.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Looks rather worn, but still a neat display. I'd hang it up!

The materials and labor to frame it probably cost $30 alone. Nice buy.

I think I would have used an Air Tite stuck in a felt display card instead of a white 2x2, but I would have charged more than $30. image

It probably cost the original buyer $149.95
