Whats going on with this mintmark? 1909 S VDB

looking through ebay, i found This 1909 S VDB. as memory serves, there was only one punch used to make the mintmark, and as i remember, it looks nothing like this. as i recall, the serifs are more defined than that, and the overall shape just looks wrong. i don't have my coin book library with me, anyone who can shed some light on the subject would be appreciated. thanks in advance
