Pictures of actual President Dollars released by US Mint

The US Mint has released images of the actual President dollars for this year. The Washington dollar looks better in this picture than it did in the snapshot I saw that someone took recently at the "Hold a President Dollar" event. Here they are:

Why no word "Liberty" anywhere on the coin?

  • Maybe they left LIBERTY off to get the public mad about it so they get some free press. I see numismatic history in the making here......

Isn't "Liberty" on the edge on these?

Oops. I guess not. From the Mint:

"These coins will feature edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting or issuance, "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust" and the mint mark. Due to the minting process used on the circulating coins, the edge-incused inscription positions will vary with each coin. "

She is on the reverse. I do like the new dollar. The Sackie dollar is given out as change on our public transit system and so I expect these will be found in circulation albeit rarely around here in San Jose.

    Mint Link

It's the statue of Liberty on the reverse. By law all U.S. coins must have LIBERTY in the composition. In modern years the classical Liberty Head depicted on coins has been replaced with the letters. So it's nice to see Liberty personified on a coin, even if it's only the statue form and not a sculptor's rendition of the iconic lady's bust or head.

I kinda like these! The pictures posted in this link show a pretty good quality coin, reasonable looking design, and I imagine the incused lettering on the edge will be rather appealing to the general public! My experience with edge lettering is that when ever I would show my bust half to anybody and point out the lettering, they always thought it was cool!

As with any new desgin on our coinage, I think we just have to give it a chance. These might be a hit!

Washington obverse looks like a mirror image of George that's on the Dollar note. Hmmm...you don't think they might be trying to tell us something here? Nah...that would be too good to be true.

I predict that they will go the way of the Ike Dollars and S.B. Anthonys. Will the mint offer sets of these for sale, or will they only be available at your local bank, etc.?

Do you believe that the only liberty Americans enjoy is the ability to post moronic replies to Collector's Universe? That as long as we have this forum, we haven't lost any liberty? So long as PSA's message boards are up and running, the constitution is safe and secure? I suggest you read the Patriot Act and the Patriot Act II--most of your congressmen haven't, yet they passed it. By the way, I'm not a democrat--I know you "neg'd me" because you think I'm an EVIL liberal, lol. Think outside the sham box--there are other options besides the two parties that control this country!

Bush didn't write the Patriot Act legislature, dems and repubs did together. Name one liberty we have lost as a nation...I have lost none. No one I know has lost any liberty. Every person like you who says we have, can never give any examples, yet stick to that line that we have our liberty. I have no fear of anyone checking my emails or phone. No fear of that happening one bit. Neg\'d you because you are evil?? I didnt say that, I just said it was a moronic reply. So now tell us what liberties have been lost because of Bush and give examples. LIBERTY is intact and on our coins, always will be. As with the Prez, dollars they are on the edges.

I believe they will be very popular with collectors, but I'm not sure they will get into general circulation. In my opinion the mint will have to stop printing dollar bills before the dollar coins will circulate.
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?
  • Terrorizing the Bill of Rights--read the truth behind the first passage of the patriot act, and how Congressmen had no time to even read the bill before signing it, and the sweeping powers awarded the legislative branch that are not counter-balanced by judicial review. You are a terrorist if the government says you are, and no American citizen is "safe":
    http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0146,hentoff,29876,6.html

Read what the government, under the guise of the Patriot Act did to Sami Omar Al-Hussayen, a University of Idaho graduate student and Saudi national accused of terrorism under the PATRIOT Act.

If you are blind to the powergrab in Washington, you are simply not paying attention. Clinton laid the groundwork for a US police state, and Bush polished the surfaces. We see "terrorist training sessions" in our public schools--parents aren't even made aware beforehand. Children as young as 6 years old spend the day having SWAT teams point assault rifles at them, to "simulate" a terrorist event--but we all know what it's really for, it's get US citizens accustomed to government goons caralling us with high powered weapons when they escort us off to FEMA camps when our dictator suddenly declares martial law. You might think that can never happen, but they said the same thing in Nazi Germany. And it's creepy and ironic how our current government has borrowed nearly every move from Hitler's playbook.

During Katrina, the mayor ordered the confiscation of all firearms--armed national guardsmen went door to door to round up the guns. Innocent civilians were shot dead in the streets--lawsuits abound today over the injustice conducted then. Is it mainstream media? Hardly. But you can find the stories if you know what to look for. The government wouldn't let Katrina victims escape either--those caught attempting to leave the city were forced back at gunpoint. Why do you think that is? Patients were EUTHANIZED in the hospitals! I know, it wasn't you or your friends so it doesn't really matter.

When is the last time anybody questioned photo radar and DUI checkpoints? It's so commonplace today that most probably wouldn't understand why I would even bring that up as a loss of liberty. When is the last time anybody questioned the NATIONAL ID card act, that forces AMericans to have RFID chips in their government-issued ID by 2008? SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS. Of course, this is under the guise of illegal immigration, yet our borders have never been more insecure. Bush needs our borders open--because the globalists, and people like his father, the NEW WORLD ORDER goons, need to push through the NAFTA superhighway and the North American Union. Why? One world goverment--we no longer have a soveriegn nation, and therefore our constitution and our laws don't mean anything under the new plan. We already have US citizens facing tribunals on foreign lands, in world courts, and our supreme court has already said the World Court is the law of the land. Does that not scare you? Who controls the money in this world--this fiat currency system, this debt-based sham--the world bank and the IMF. We are nothing but slaves to their greedy little masterplan, and we're not just allowing it to happen, we're sheepishly pushing it ahead!

After 2 decades of gun control freaks trying to repeal the 2nd ammendment, they've suddenly switched courses. They know the only way to confiscate guns is to have a national registry--which wasn't going to happen by announcing such a scheme. So what do they do? Suddenly every state has these "gun friendly" conceal carry permits... Oh by the way, you need a license and in most cases you need to register your guns. But don't worry, they'll only confiscate them when a hurricane hits. Or when they say you're a terrorist. Or when you're convicted of a felony... but now they want to make misdemeanants unable to carry firearms. Alright, really, just hand them over now.

Every financial transaction over $10K is reports as suspicious--and guess what, if they catch you carrying large sums of cash in your vehicle, they can legally confiscate it even if there is no evidence you've committed a crime. Courts across the country, and our nation's highest court has upheld this bizzare and oppressive legislation. The mere fact that you carry large sums of cash is enough evidence that you intended to use the cash for drugs. Drugs the CIA brings into this country, I might add. No evidence required--they don't even need to file charges against you. Your money is theirs, and they won't let you forget it. Of course, they don't really want you carrying cash--the cashlesss society is crucial for total control. Just use the invisible digital cash on that cute little National ID card they gave you, you know the one with the RFID chip that tracks your every move.

Try exercising your right to free speech. Try it. You'll be arrested so fast you won't even have a chance to post that you did so, unless you post bail of course. Protestors need licenses and "approval" now--and of course you are required to stay several miles away from whatever event it is that you're protesting. It started with protesting abortion clinics, but now it's spread to every facet and every issue--you can't walk down the street with an anti-Bush t-shirt without facing ridicule and arrest. You can't show up to a WTO event with a picket sign or you will be carted off to a 8x8 cell. The only reason they let people like me spew on the internet is because most Americans think people like me are conspiracy theorists. The day you take me seriously is the day I'm no longer allowed to talk to you. Think about that. By then, it will be too late.

I suggest you watch some Alex Jones videos, although there are many out there to choose from. The truth is out there, waiting to be found. You're not going to get it on FOX, CNN, or Collector's Universe. I can't derail this thread anymore, but if you want to watch some videos I'll send them to you free of charge. What would it hurt?

Besides one dollar has no purchasing power today. Who's gonna carry around ten coins to go to lunch when paper is lighter? A $5 coin might stand a chance of circulating but a $1 coin? Never.

You can be arrested. Taken actually, nobody will know where you are.
    Taken to Cuba.
Tortured until you say 'yes I did it'.
They will then put you on trial.
Say you admitted doing it, it doesn't matter that it was a confession under torture, you can't use that as a defense.
You do not get a lawyer.
You go to prison the rest of your life. Still, nobody knows where you are.

Right, no Liberty’s have been taken away.

Opps, I forgot, the coins are ugly.
