Heritage IH images through the years

Two different IH's imaged 5 years apart by the major coin auction house of this decade.

An 1859 PCGS MS64 from the April 2001 Indianapolis CSNS Bullet Sale.

An 1859 PCGS MS65 from the October 2006 Dallas Signature Sale.

#1 2001, #2 2006.

One of the last great numismatic mysteries to me is how Heritage has never settled on one good way to image coppers.

I am at the point where I would only cherrypick varieties from their images. It is always the best practice to bid serious high grade coins only that have been personally inspected anyway. Heritage images are like a box of chocolates......

It makes me wonder if they've decided that so few coins are bought sight unseen that it's not worth the trouble to do a good job??

Heritage IH Cent images are like watching a newbie play with his new digital camara on the forum, get suggestions, and then
continue to take worse images for 5 more years. It's incredible that they now take the worst lit, most white unbalanced images
of the coins they sell for record prices. Boggles my mind.

    Paul,

I think you're being generous towards Heritage. Your thread suggests Heritage has only made a single change to there imaging style when in fact they've made at least 5 that I can think of! In every case, either the resolution is low, the color is inaccurate, the luster is muted, etc.

Actually, in my opinion they did a better job 2-3 years ago than they do today (and there was room for improvement even then).
