2006 American Buffalo Gold

I have three of these coins (2 purchased from the Mint and 1 bullion coin from a dealer) that are not slabbed. I was thinking of sending one of these to PCGS for grading. What should I expect in terms of a grade? Do I even send in a bullion coin?

I do have 2 First Strike PR69 Gold Buffalo coins, so I may not submit either of the Mint coins. I kind of like how they're displayed now.

Not worth submitting, IMHO. They are bullion and too common.

Are the proofs from the Mint bullion, as well?

How do your raw ones compare to your slabbed ones? If you can't tell the difference then don't try.
I put my nicest raw buffalo in intercept shield 2x2 s and am very satified with the look. They show much better aganist black. The slabbed ones don't look as nice to me.

The raw ones look pretty good to me, but I'm a novice. I have no idea what "intercpet shield 2x2" means.

I like how the raw coins are displayed in their respective cases from the US Mint so I will most likely keep them as is. I can always submit them later, correct?

Assuming the MS coin was well cared for (they come in a shrinkwrapping that can give you a false sense of security in handling them) then you should expect 69s with a decent (less than 10%) shot at a 70. 3 coins is not enough to expect it to be likely that one will be a 70. You have to ask yourself, do I feel lucky?

And in the mean time ignore the trolls.

The proof is considered bullion as well but was intended for collectors. 95+% of these will grade 68 or higher.

i.e. the only reason to send them into PCGS is to put them into a protective package that will have a unique serial number that is great for competing in registries.

I may be confusing myself (and others)...

Both of the coins from the US Mint were in a plastic shell and came with the standard display case. The dealer coin was shrink wrapped. I'm not too intertested in competing in set registries just yet and don't plan on selling any of my coins.

I don't think I'm ready to compete in registries. I'm just now learning the intricacies of coin collecting. I started with holding on to Kennedys I came across on a daily basis and started buying from the US Mint when the Gold Buffalo came out.

Thanks to all who have responded. This is very helpful. I'll probably send in the shrinkwrapped coin and hold on to the coins from the US Mint.

I think the 24K buffalos are beautiful--so for display purposes I think it might be worth having them slabbed by PCGS. Or as the other guy mentioned, buy a nice holder for it. The intercept shield is a brand of anti-corrosive coin holder, and you can buy them from Brent Kruger or just about any dealer. They are 2x2's with a black background, and come in packages of 3 for about $3.

Realize that these are all bullion coins and all collectable. Many like to say that bullion coins aren't collectable. Tell that to trade dollar collectors.

The ones from the mint are proofs, right? I don't think they sold hte MS coins directly to collectors. Both have about the same shot at a 70.
