I've Took The Plunge Into The Non Sport World/1936 & 37 Greiling Film Star Tobacco Cards

Not that I need to start collecting anything else, I was browsing eBay yesterday and came across some cards that caught my eye.

I am completely out of my league on this type of stuff but for a total of $9.25 including shipping I felt that it was a no lose situation.

If anyone can give me some links to research these a little better it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Jeff

  • That's a nice find, Jeff. I know I would've hopped on it if I had seen it as well. I'm not too familiar with these but I'm willing to bet that once MorrellMan gets back he'll be able to tell you all about them.

    Again, nice find. image

    Country of Issue: Germany
    Year of Issue: 1937
    Color/B&W: Color
Number of Cards in Set: 250 (Numbered 251-500)
    Card Size: 2 1/4" x 2 5/16"
Issued as insert with what product: Cigarettes

There seems to be many variations on these cards. A particular actor/actress will have multiple cards with different sizes (I'm assuming the "S" and "L" stand for Small and Large) and possibly different photos.

    Good luck!

    Thank you Arthur.

From the auction description these are all 2 1/4" x 2 5/16" so these would be the large ones. Can't really tell the condition from the pics but they look to be in decent shape.

Can't wait until these arrive because the only thing that I have that is remotely close to these is a stack of some old movie magazines from the teens, 20's and 30's that I picked up at a yard sale about 11 years ago for $1 for the lot. I think that the cards will go nicely with them.

Here are the magazines. They're not all complete and a couple have loose covers but I really love this type of stuff.
