Mint Wrapped Rolls...

promote coin toning?

I have a couple of rolls of Jefferson Buffalo Reverse Nickels (2005) where the end coins are toning very nicely. In fact, the toning resembles the color of the mint wrapper. I'm sure that this is no coincidence, is it?

I too have rolls of the 2005 buffalo nickel that I bought from the Mint website with the end coins toned a light reddish brown. I bought the rolls this year when the Mint put them up for sale again. I figured it was a result of poor storage conditions.

I have seen Sacajawea rolls with some deep blue and gold end toning but I think this has more to do with the method of storage than anything else. The same could hold true for the nickel series but I do not know for sure.

Are your coins stored in the original mint packaging or an aftermarket box?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The coins are in the original mint wrapper...kept in a mahogany drawer. It's actually pretty interesting as 60% of the Mint Wrapped Rolls are toning whereas only 5% of the OBW rolls are doing so.

I really believe that the Mint wrappers promote toning. Whether the Mint did this intentionaly or not I don't know.
