1875-S I/II trade dollar: need more help

Here is a thread I started almost 5 years ago when researching trade dollars. Does anyone have any new info to add?


I just got an 1875-S I/II from Bowers & Merena and was struck by how much it looked like the AU coin I already had. I checked both and found that they were not only struck from the same dies but in the same die state. They show identical die polish marks and die cracks. The other '75-S I/II I recently bought chopmarked. It looks like it used the same reverse at an earlier die state before the cracks and die polish. I can't tell if the obverse die was the same.

If any of you have '75-S I/II's in your collections, please tell me if they have the following characteristics:

1) Die cracks forming an "x" between stars one and two
2) A long die crack running from 11 o'clock, just north of star six, and into Liberty's crown/tiara
3) Die polish on the eagle's right (viewer's left) wing that takes away detail from the bottom
4) An extensive die crack running from the "U" in "UNITED" counterclockwise to the base of "T" in "TRADE"
