Well, I sent off 8 crossovers for my collectors club membership, all in NGC or ANACS holders. The morgan was a 64pl and I said only cross if pl, so I'm not too surprised at that one not crossing given how harsh they are on pls. I'm wondering about the 1903-s, it says cleaning and was in a problem free anacs holder. Does this mean they cracked it then found the cleaning, or is it a DNC due to cleaning? It should be interesting to find out.

Oh, if USCG XF45 is looking out, you'll have to ask my brother for that 1893-o, it is his.

DNC due to cleaning. PCGS has a tougher standard on what is cleaned than ANACS. About 25% won't cross.

This isn't just a WAG number, and anyone contemplating sending ANACS Morgans to PCGS for crossover (especially better VAMs) needs to brace themselves for a loud wakeup call. Namely, even before you get to the issue of grading scores the reality is ANACS puts a lot of coins in holders that PCGS won't holder at any grade. Here's the Alpha example of what I'm talking about:

A year before PCGS announced the start of VAM attributions, a very serious VAM collector sent them some 4,000 ANACS-holdered VAMs (all of them problem-free according to ANACS) for crossover so PCGS graders could start doing attributions and develop a system for the process. He stipulated minimum grades for only a few dozen coins; the rest were "cross at any grade". Even so, approximately 1,000 of them were returned for either cleaning or altered surfaces. None of the coins ever came out of their ANACS holders; PCGS graders made their decisions right where they were.

I've had a bit better luck with my own submissions, and other VAM buddies tell me their numbers are right in the same 15-25% range.

I've experienced the same with ANACS and NGC Barber Halves. Congrats on the 93-O XF45.

That 1904-O is a tough coin. Congrats on the Barbers.
