King Faisal coin

My son , who just returned from Baghdad, picked up a coin for me that he says has King Faisal on it. Its supposed to be silver and from around 1921. He said it was about the size of a US half dollar.
I wont get to see it until April but I was wondering is anyone might know anything about these ? As soon as I get it in my hot little hands I will scan it and maybe that will help. Thanks for any info.

Faisal, son of Sharif Hussein of Mecca, was the first king of Iraq. His older brother, Abdullah, became the first king of Jordan after World War I, when those countries were carved from the Arab territories of the former Ottoman empire.

"About half dollar sized" sounds like a 100 fils of King Faisal II. If so, the 1953 coins are .900 fine, the 1955 ones are .500 fine.

    If it's closer to a silver-dollar-sized coin, then it's probably a 200 fils or 1 riyal coin of Faisal I, dated 1932.

  • The U.S. half dollar is 30.6 millimeters. The .500 silver 50 fils of 1931-38 are 26.5 millimeters while the 1932 200 fils is 34 millimeters. The 100 fils of 1953-55 are 29 millimeters. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.

I have (or had) a King Faisal piece around here somewhere. But I can't remember if it had a portrait or not.
