Interesting Possible New Morgan Find

Well....interesting to some VAM folks I guess.

I bought this one DMPL because it looked different form the other varieties I have in prooflike for the date. It had been clashed and repolished. What is fascinating is what was probably there before the polishing. The E of LIBERTY shows the tailfeathers clashed through it. For that to be so visible there, it would be surprising if the E wasn't boldly (but partially) right in the field at the base of the eagle.

Additionally, there are some neat scratches in the right wing that I am sure will get a designation all by themselves.

A bunch of other things too, like erosion at one wing tip.

Guess it is about time to send another box off to Leroy.......

I know you VAM guys can look at photo bits and determine the date, but I can't. Any help?

I was keeping the date under wraps until I send it off. This is one known for only a few clashes, none hugely noteworthy so far.

Take a look at the ribbon on the cap and see if you have a triangular chip there....I think I have seen this before....I know Messydesk has.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

I do not see a chip on the ribbon. Below the ribbon, there is a chip and a cluster of a few others in the void by it next to the hair.

A very interesting find, especially with finding the tailfeathers clashing through the E and being DMPL.

It looks like the lines in the right wing have a state of uniformity to them. I wonder what they were using to polish the dies that day?

I will be waiting to find out the date when you get her back from Leroy so I can check for it.

    Nice work John

You know, Brian, what gets me is why would they polish the central device that much? The wing and neck clashes are almost completely there still, but the recessed (in the die) eagle got a real rub down. Looks like the 99-O VAM-5 but larger and the other wing.

I was just looking at a 99-O and spotted the die polishing you mentioned, except on my coin it runs across from inside each leg and between 2 tai feathers and on right of bow.

Got a pic? The lines in the wing on the VAM-5 is the easy differentiation pf that variety from the other micro o ones of the date.

Oops got the 99-O confused with my O4-0 which I think is a 1AR.image The 99-O is a VAM 8 (my guess anyway image)

This is not a 99-O, but is a New Orleans dollar. I am fairly certain it has not been degignated yet, which is why it is off to Leroy this week.
