card return

this is a first. had a guy win a psa graded card from me. he emailed me after receipt and said he was returning the card because psa should not have graded the card that high. he said if i had a return policy fine, if not he was still returning. has this ever happened to you?

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

Is he expecting his money back?

    here is the response:

    Hey,
I got this card today, and will return it tomorrow. Not your fault; PSA never should have graded it this high. There are color marks on the front, and a bunch of finger print marks on the back. If you have a return policy, great. If not, that's fine too.

    Thanks,

Many sellers state something similar to the following in their listings:

"There Can Be No Refunds or Returns on Third-Party Graded Cards"

If the guy paid with PayPal, he can likely get a refund after he returns
the card anyway, so when you get the card back you should consider
quickly refunding him, less shipping and listing fees.

If he paid with check or money-order, it is up to you how you want to
    handle the matter.

Make sure he sends you back the same card you sold him.

In the end, I hope we all find out who he is so he can go on our
    blocked bidder lists.

Unless you state "No Returns on Graded Cards" in your auction he has a right to return it for a refund. I think it's good business to accept returns anyway. Why would you want to stick someone with a card they're not happy with? More often than not, you'll wind up getting the same amount when you relist, and you will gain a loyal customer that way. That's the main reason Steve Hart has such a loyal customer base and is so highly regarded as a seller--he offers a full refund if you're not satisfied and that's the way it should be.

Edit: Ebay will also refund you for the FVF and the listing fee when you accept a return, so you should not be subtracting anything but shipping from the refund amount.

Wild... is it a card from a set that's known to be "tough" with regard to printing issues? For instance, 1978 Topps baseball... I've seen some 8's and 9's that had print defects.... some so bad that entire portions of the card are off-color.

BTW--That Elvis card I bought from you is a blazing 9... pretty thrilled with it... I'm sending it to my mom, an Elvis fan, who was curious as to what I kept talking about when I'd mention "graded cards."
