Interesting NEN coin - Transylvania

I love browsing their inventory! This one in particular is quite unusual.

1694-CV 10 Ducats Trial White Metal CF-KM-514 - NGC AU-55
Probably unique, a moon shaped trial striking of the gold 10 ducats (worth $75,000 or more in this grade). From the Montenuova sale of Hess in 1880

It may be the wine talking, but I think it looks like a set of fangs. Go figure.

I was thinking a boomerang myself.

Having something pedigreed to a 1880 sale is impressive. Is 1880 a typo?

There were all kinds of weirdo shapes of Transylvanian coins in that era. I always thought they were cool when I was browsing the 17th century Krause volume. This is the first time I have actually seen a color picture of one, though. Krause is the only place I'd ever seen them before.

Is that the same Hess in today's Hess Divo company?

    I think so.

Adolph Hess Nachfolger was a distinguished Frankfurt-M Jewish numismatic firm that left Germany in the 1930's and relocated to Switzerland.

I don't know a lot about their history, but do know they had some joint auctions with Bank Leu in the past.
