Guys, do you think this card is trimmed?

This is a super hard card to get of Bobby Orr in decent condition and even though it is badly centered
it would still be a prize to get.........what i need to know from you guys if you think it is trimmed....I emailed
the guy selling it and he said that it measures exactly to the size of other 68's but I don't always find that
reassuring???

Check it out at ebay.....thanks....

Looks like there is enough border there but it looks so cleanly cut for an OPC. That one kind of scares me...I would have a hack at it if I won it cheap enough.

Tough to tell from the scan. The cut and centering are pretty good for that year. The only thing that concerns me is that if it would grade an 8 OC it should sell for more on ebay than listing it raw.

Hmmm--he should tell you what the card measures, not that it measures exactly the same as his "others".

The '68 OPC's don't have the same rough cuts as the post 1970 cards, so that alone wouldn't scare me off. The fact that it's being sold by a Canadian makes it much more unlikely that the card is altered, since a lot of Canadian dealers still don't screw around with TPG.

FWIW that card looks fine to me. If I was in the market for one of those I'd feel comfortable winning it.
  • The seller is in the U.S.
His name and address is on the bottom of the listing.
He's putting up Canadian bucks to attract more bidders??
Who knows? Anyways, I'd stay away from this card.
    Just my opinion.

I have no idea why I thought this guy was Canadian, lol.

Because his item is listed on ebay.ca, the Canadian sister site, and the current price is listed is in Canadian dollars.
  • Thanks for all your insight guys.......I am certainly not the expert that some of you chaps are here
but this card just looks somewhat suspicious to me.....if it stayed low I might consider going for it....
  • It could be that he didn't trim the cards that show signs of trimming--he might not know what he's doing, and/or may have purchased them that way. In any event, it's an all or nothing deal. If it's trimmed it's essentially worthless, and if it's not trimmed it's a steal. But, there is no in between. I really never did understand why Beckett's graded price guide lists PSA and BGS gem mint cards selling for $1000 for example, and then PRO as selling for $300... when 95% of PRO stuff is trimmed. If that's so, it shouldn't be selling for $300 or any amount of money. But, it's become a gamble for some to find the oddball legit card in a PRO holder, I guess. A risky gamble, because if it's trimmed it's worthless and if it's not it's a great crossover or slab buster.

My buddy Marc was talking to me about that card earlier today. He's rather confident it's legit, and probably from a vending box. The card's notoriously off centered to begin with, but he was saying the vending Orrs tended to have - when horizontally oriented - large left borders and small right ones.

I'm not the expert Marc is, but I really like the fact that the card doesn't have the dreaded tilt cut. I can live with OC '68s, but slants really kill eye appeal. I think it's a decent buy at the current level.

  • Judging from the recess holder vs. the size of the card..it looks trimmed!!

Even if it's not...it has a HUGE water stain on the top left border and top edge of the card.

Looks nice...but junk...unless it's in the bargain basement and you want one that bad!!

Study Eagleyekid's blowup.....it says it all!!
  • 5Stat, I am not seeing this water stain?? Does anyone else see it because their is no way I am buying
    a water stained card?
