What a Lying SOB!

"Exceptionally Rare Red & Violet" J-299

My "question" to him:

This coin is very common, an R-3. In RB, it's at best an R-4, but no one familiar with patterns would make that distinction. If reslabbed, this coin would be a RB. Here are a few auction results from the last 2 years to give you and your buyers an idea of value:

HNAI 1-2007 NGC 65RB $1,150
HNAI 9-2006 NGC 66RB $1,495
HNAI 9-2006 NGC 66BN $1,955
HNAI 7-2006 PCGS 65RB $1,380
ANR 1-2006 PCGS PR65RB $2,300
ANR 7-2005 PCGS PR65RB $1,725
ANR 6-2005 PCGS PR6BN $817
ANR 3-2005 NGC PR63BN $1,380
HNAI 1-2005 NGC 66BN $1,725

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, let me know.
Rick

I don't know anything about these cents, but isn't there a die rotation here? Looks like it to me.

Talk about ignoring the slab! I didn't even notice that!image

Edited to add: Now we're in my field. I asked him how he made the attribution of J-299 versus c-n IHC.

Andy and Rick, isn't J-299 a medal turn pattern? Also, I believe on J-299 the lower loop of the 8 and the loop of the 6 are unpolished and show this clearly on all known examples.

Andy and Rick, isn't J-299 a medal turn pattern?

I believe it comes both ways.

More importantly, J-299 is from the regular dies on a thin bronze planchet, as adopted during the following year. The coin on Ebay appears to be a regular CN cent, and that's what PCGS calls it.

Here's one at Stack's with 360 degree medal turn

360 degree turns are nowhere near as tough as 720 degree turns!

720 degree turns are R-8s. That's why they're so tough.

Did you notice what it says at the end of the listing ...

OK, the auction is bad, the coin is not a J-299, as that is not on the slab. Even eBay would recognize this and would probably pull the auction if someone told them. So , which one of you guys has or will let eBay know about this bad auction? (Somehow I keep typing "suction" instead of "auction" in this reply, perhaps that is appropriate for this coin.)

One more piece of info ... all the seller's feedback is from other seller's- i.e., no feedback from any buyersimage

Only one thing would be nicer and that is inviting those who we post about, so that they might have the opportunity to address everyone who talks about them.
I have found a lot of "innocent, even if ignorant" sellers on ebay that never get an opportunity to say image "sorry, I made a mistake... thank you for helping me and showing me the PCGS or NGC boards so I can learn more". But instead, this person (who I've not checked out) is OBVIOUSLY a lying sonofaimageimage.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll steer clear of his mother image
