I could kick myself!!!!!!!!

So for the past two weeks I've been trying to figure out what I was wanting to do tonight. I knew that there was something I wanted to do or some place I wanted to go, but my brain just couldn't come up with anything. Then it hit me this afternoon on my way to work. This next part is going to sound terrible. But, mind you, I have never done this before and I felt logically it made sense if it was unethical.
As I was on my way to work I heard on the radio that the Reds were signing stuff at Slugger Museum. It finally dawned on me that this was what I had forgotten. Since it's on my way to work I thought, I'll just stop by and see what's going on. So, I pulled in and got in line. As I was in line, I began to call my work to tell them that I was sick with a fever and vomitting and all this stuff. I've never done that before so I felt really really horrible about it. But it was autographs!!! As I started to dial the number, I look up in line and about 15 people in front of me is my general manager who knows I'm supposed to be at work. He didn't see me thank goodness. I jumped out of line and ran to the car to get to work.
I know it seems like a dumb story, but it was the adventure of the day and I felt really guilty for even thinking about lying. I'm not sure what I was thinking.

I'm not sure what you were thinking about feeling guilty. They give you sick days for a reason. You are sick about autographs!

<< <i>Actually, it's a disposo job that I work since I went back to school and can't work full time. I don't really get sick days. If I'm sick, I have to find someone to cover my shift or come in. If I miss without coverage I get fired. >>
I think it might be time to find a new job. With all due respect, I've yet to find or see a job that missing one day of work warranted termination.

I think we are all adults and we know when to miss work and when not to--explaining the exact excuse is not necessary. The employee that misses too many days has to be called into question because they may not be responsible or fit enough to handle the job.
By the way, if you called in sick, did you have coverage? It sounds like you called in but had no coverage, so you would have been terminated then? How did the people at the job site react when you called in sick but showed up anyway......"boy, what a real gamer, wanting to tuff it out" It may have worked in your favor
