Could someone please explain....

how a dealer or collector would "corner the market" or "run up the price" on a coin or series of coins? Do these terms mean the same thing? Thanks.

    Run up the price....

Put fake auctions on e-bay for a coin that does not trade too often. Use alternate accounts to drive a high buy price. After many fake sales, conduct a real one (possibly combined with shill bidding).

a dealer could run up the price by cornering the market. hoarding all of a particular coin that is collectible where the demand will remain constant, buy supply will decrease causing the price to increase, and because he has cornered the market, buyers must go through him to buy.
