dumb question-2nd chance

i place a token bid on a $2000 card. it was for $1000. there were at least 5 different bidders ahead over me using the new bidder 1, 2 etc. format. today i get an email for a 2nd chance in my home email box, but nothing in my ebay "my message" mailbox. shouldn't i get something in that mailbox if it is legit.

i believe with a high percentage that it is a scam, but just in case it is not i want to make certain.

thanks

RUN AWAY -- very much a scam.

Never trust any e-mail you get from Ebay. Only trust what you can find when you're on your My Ebay page that you have logged in seprately to from (e.g. not a link from an e-mail)

  • yes..they are getting crafty with phishing emails.

I got the same type 2nd chance offer on a 1969 vending box that I had bid on. The seller was a member here on the boards.....but when I got the 2nd chance offer it was from someone else in CA..not MD as the original seller was.

It was reported. But I wonder how many people fall prey to these types of schemes??

How did the scammer know who you were? You were identified as bidder 2? I was under the impression ebay did away with the names and went to bidder 1 etc so people would not get phony 2nd chance offers.

    Did I misunderstand you?

Usually, I not only get 1 second chance offer, but up to 5 for the same item (high ticket). These phisers are ruthless and persistent. I now just turn off the second chance offer under preferences.

winpitcher-that's what i thought. even though i was bidder 7 they figured me out. i had no early bids and my first and only was 1000 so they figured something out.
  • If you placed your bid at $1000 before the auction moved past the $200 point, even if the bid was not early, then your id would have been visible to anyone.
