Interesting trend with population of 2006 MS ASE

I was looking over the population report and noticed a huge jump in yearly total numbers in the ASE section. The 2006 MS 69eagles have a pop. of 140k. Comparing that to prevoius years it is MORE than the sum total of all the previous MS 69 years combined.
PCGS graded almost as many ASEs as NGC in 06. That's a big spike!
On the average NGC total pops are about 50K and PCGS pops are about 6k. Both services trend higher after 2000 but NGC pops tend to dwarf PCGS pops up until 06
'06 population is about 20X bigger than the average and on par with NCG.
Something changed in 06 for sure. The why, the what and is it a good thing is the question.

Personally, I think when there's a good chance of getting a PR70 on the proofs, & to get the FS or 20th Ann designation you have to send in the unopened box with the MS SAE, submisssions are going to jump.
What are the submission pop's for regular PR coins? And I'm not talking about the Rev Proof variety. I suspect those jumped too.

the 140k number was for 2006 ms 69 ASEs alone , it does not include the 2006w mint mark numbers so the 20th anniversary set is not a factor in that.
The proof pop. numbers do not show the same crazy spike. In that reguard PCGS and NGC were not that far apart in total pops.

The W ASE's have alittle over 5000 in all grades.
