Ok football guys here ya go post suggestion for a Football wax rip

Well at the urging of alot of the football gurus. Seems like they want to rip some old wax too. So since it seemed to work very well for the baseball rip. Heres a thread to post your suggestions of what you would like to rip. Then I'll put the suggestions together and put a few option that could be put together for 36 people and do a thread poll.

Just as info 76 is as far back as we could go to get 36 packs per box any earlier and theres only 24 per box plus things get complicated and really expensive.
My suggestions was 76-86 topps footbal. or 77-87maybe with a 89 score pack.

What kinda of packs would you guys like to see image

    80s,

    Can you get 1977 packs?

BTW, GREAT job with the baseball rip!

I would vote for the one beginning with 76. I sold my Payton rookies in the late 80s and would like a try at one.

  • I do really like the idea of an '89 Score pack.

    It's just a great product.

How much would it be to add the 89 score to the 76-86?

I say we go 76-86 with a 89 score pack or that should be solid packs all the way through!

I really like the idea of that rip

  • Well 80scollector76-86topps would be in the 140-150 range with shipping and paypal fees
another thought maybe drop the expensive 76 and do 77-87 with a 89 score pack puts us at just above 100 pp

Keep the ideas coming guys Would like to come up with at least 3 scenarios for a poll thread to vote on

Gary, are those prices including the 'hey we have been buying lots of boxes, so hook us up' discount? image

I'd vote for the '77-'87 with the '89 Score thrown in to keep the price down, but I'd love to get a shot at the Payton rookie as well. Sheesh....but, an extra $40-50 for an outside shot at a Payton? Not sure that I'd want to take the chance.

Personally, I really like the 1974 through 1984....I've always wanted to bust 74's.

  • Ok greg there might be a way to do 74-84 and still have 36 people. I'll call steve in the morning and see if hes got the product to make it work.but it definatly would be pricey I'll make 74-84 one of the options to vote onimage

    80's Junkie,

He has the product minus the 77's and 80's. He offered a 10% discount plus free shipping (I talked w/ him today). I was thinking we could also through in the wax rack packs of 1980 fb ($10 each) or wax trays of 1979 fb ($35 each). Just a thought.

    Regards,

  • I think anything in the '70's would be great, but pricey at times...

Does anyone have a bunch of '54 Bowman laying around? I think those 1 cent packs are the most affordable vintage packs, and I'm looking for an excuse to crack some. image It'd be cheaper than a '73 pack, but only one card.

  • Oh -- one more thing -- if we participate in a rip, do we have to rip, or can we keep the packs unopened? image

I'd love to have an unopened pack from many years in the '70's, and getting in on a box may be cheaper than rounding up single packs.

    Doug
  • yeah greg but i was thinking on the 74 and 75 boxes if he also had 12 loose packs of each then there would be 36 of everything and then we could split it btween 36 people instead of big lots and small lots also dave and adam has the 80 wax box. the 74-84 option would be the most expensive around 200 a piece dont know if we could get 36 guys at that price but who knows.

So far im thinking about putting these 3 options up for a vote

    74-84 topps

    76-86 topps

    78-87 topps w/a 89 score pack

djs you dont have to rip there are a few pack collectors who like to join in to add to thier collections
  • Excellent. '74 to '84 would be a blast. I'd prefer that to '76 to '86, just because of the excitement of a 33 year old pack...

I know many people are very interested in 1985 Topps and 1986 Topps - How about a 1974-1986 rip? It's more expensive, but there's a lot in there for everyone...

What about the idea on the other thread about ripping 36 packs vs. 24 in some years and looking for volunteers for the extra 12 packs? It seemed like people were signing up for it, but it is, of course, more work for the organizer...

I'm open to either but I don't see anything special in the 74 or 75 sets - am I missing something there?

    "Molon Labe"

  • Yes, I suppose that is true, but in complete honesty, to me, there are really only a few key cards in any of these years. Some years have a few more than others, but mostly, there are a handful of big cards in each set. I think the odds are relatively slim that you'll end up with a card that you're looking for in any particular year. The draw for me is opening a piece of history and maybe getting a mint or key card along the way.

Specifically regarding the 1974 and 1975 sets, these were nice years for the Vikings. image 1974 is Ahmad Rashad and Chuck Foreman's rookie years. Also, there are many great cards, including Bradshaw, Staubach and Stabler. In 1975, the Dan Fouts card sticks out to me, but there are other good cards, like Mel Blount, Joe Theismann, and Terry Bradshaw. Also, 1975 is Drew Pearson's rookie card, if you're a cowboy fan, even though he pushed off and cost the Vikings the Superbowl that year...HA!

In any case, I think a case can be made to rip nearly anything, and generally for me, the older the better!

I have to agree on the 74 and 75 packs not being too enticing to bust in my opinion, and as was previously stated, 45-50 bucks for a not so good shot at Payton just doesn't seem worth it to me. I think the 78-87 with 89 score thrown in would be much more affordable(at least for me) and you could actually extend that with a box of 88 topps and 89 proset(series 2) thrown in for like 60 cents more a person so it would run from 78-89.

    We already did a 1980-89 bust. I vote 1974-1984.

I think the key to this is to keep it cost effective, but enjoyable, as we'd be very lucky for each of us to get a "good" card (Munoz, Lott, Taylor, Allen RCs, or a nice Bradshaw, etc.), and the chances of us hitting a "money card" (Payton, Largent, Marino, Elway, Montana, Rice RCs) are pretty limited.

I think whatever we can do to keep it around $100-$125.

Anything that's been mentioned has been good, from 86 Topps and back.

  • ok heres the other question. with the baseball rip going on is there going to be enough of us to fill up a football rip?

Remember there are a few football only guys like me here that are not involved with the BB rip so we may have more people than we are thinking.
  • Ok talked with steve at bbce got a little better idea of what hes got on hand. I'll work out 3 options and start a voting thread letter tonightimage
and your right favrefan1971 there are alot of football only guys so there should be enough to pull it off

I am even excited to see our options! I am looking foward to this! I have seen the baseball rips and have wanted to do one but football is much more fun for me. I like the price and smaller sets!

  • hey GREGM for you guys like that really seem to want the 74 and 75 pack heres an option im working on to put on the poll to vote on. 74-86 we would have to do24 lots of 74 -86 and 12 lots of 76-86 because theres ony 24 in the 74-75 box. Now if we cant get enough people because its too expensive then we would drop the 74/75 and do 36 lots so we can get enough to make the rip happen does this sound like fair option
