Way OT . . . Record Albums

Anyone know how to identify a record album's pressing? First, second, etc.

Trying to liquidate an entire record collection. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, fellas.

If you post that Q on the Rare Record Forum, somebody
in the know will come along and answer it, eventually.

In my recent hunting trips, it appears that factory-sealed
albums - by popular artists/groups from the 60s/70s - are
enjoying some market demand. (There are LOTS of resealed
    Beatles albums.)

Most record albums are garage sale merch. BUT NOT ALL !!

One way that I have been able to find out about the kind of
issues you are interested in has been to call the record company
(or their successor). Also, you can contact the artists' agents,
who sometimes can recall specifics about who was involved
in a specific production. The ASCAP website prolly has some
info that can get researchers headed in the right direction.

  • Thanks, Storm!

Most of the stuff I inherited is virtually mint vinyl. Don't know much about what I'm doing, though.

Albums seem to do alright on eBay. Sold a couple for pretty good coin.

Most buyers are from overseas . . . trying to scrape together some card-gradin' money!

    Thanks again.

Albums have a serial number at the very end of the music area and before the label.

It is there that what pressing the album in question can be found.

i do not know how to read it though.

Expensive singles are safe in the BIG flat-rate Priority box
that can be reconfigured to reduce the 3 1/2" width. The
album can then be bubble-wrapped and inserted.

BUT... The package no longer qualifies for the "flat rate." You
pay regular Priority postage plus insurance/DC, etc.

(Once the shape/dimension of a falt-rate box is altered by
the consumer, the merch can stay in the "USPS property" box,
but no flat-rate discounts are granted. While some stations
are more liberal than others, it is not worth the risk that on
the receiving-end a station worker will slap postage-due on
    the package.)

Some big record sellers on EBAY use special boxes that they buy,
    ............. on EBAY.
