I don't have a Cromwell shilling, but I would give a nice Victorian shilling just for the privilege of seeing your collection and examining it in person one day!
(You DO use drool-resistant flips, right?)
PS- did you happen to notice that 1812 ANACS EF45 Bust half I sold a week ago, that came from you originally?
That was a great coin- I was terrified when I lost it last spring, around the time I got robbed, but I soon realized it could not have been one of the coins stolen from my booth 'cause I hadn't put it in inventory yet at that time. It reappeared this month, and when I put on eBay, I did very well on it. Belated thanks to you. You have an excellent- no, superb - eye for quality.
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
I wonder if a truly "original" 350-year old coin would even be worth looking at, or if it would be toned charcoal-black, or mottled, or whatever.
If you think about it, something like this had to have been cleaned at some point in the last 150 years, but when it's had a century or more to retone, who cares? It's certainly beautiful. I'm sure it was lovingly cared for in some Victorian gentleman's coin cabinet. Actually, it was probably appreciated as a historic curiosity long before that. I can visualize a late-18th century collector in a tricorn hat admiring it through Ben-Franklin-esque spectacles.

LordM, you've welcome to come see my coins but you have to bring the vest with you. Yes, I sold you the 1812. I'm happy to hear the coin turned up and did well on ebay. Thanks for the kind words.

BS - I have a dumb question. Are the raised bumps on the effigy as designed or are they the result of a rusted die? Wonder why the fields don't show this effect.
When I 1st saw the pic I thought "Wow he's got measles!"
Beautiful coin.

Gene, the raised bumps are as designed. Sorry it took so long to answer but I've been away since Wednesday.

As always, BS, superior eye appeal all-around. IMHO, I think the toning is 100% original.
