Seated Dime experts - - have you ever seen an 1874 dime with one arrow?

RichieURichRichieURich Posts: 8,372 ✭✭✭✭✭
In Brian Greer's book The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Dimes, he lists No. 102 "No Arrows", the arrows have either been filled in the die or were weakly punched and show only very faintly. Rare. I just bought an 1874 dime with a complete left arrow but the right arrow is 99.9% missing. Has anyone seen a similar one, or is this an earlier die state of the one with both arrows missing?

That sounds like a very cool filled die.

That's F-114. 500-1000% premium according the Fortin site.

SeatedDime will no doubt be checking in with full details shortly.

ould be tempting to take an eraser to the arrows.
Could you please explain in more detail how an eraser could remove an arrow?
    Thank's ...

    Nice score, Rich.

I own the discovery coin for F-114 -- I cherried it off Teletrade in December 2005 and recognized it as using the same obverse die as Greer-102/Fortin-106. I knew mine couldn't remain "unique" forever. Maybe with a couple more discoveries this will be an even more popular variety!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Here's a pic. Coin is Good and I paid $66. I bought it because I wanted an 1874 No Arrows dime and I figured this was close to it. image

Looks like F-114. We'd need a closeup of the date to confirm it as F-114, but it sure looks like it from here, since the 7 and 4 digits look a bit weak.

By the way, Gerry Fortin's site offers a "free preview" of the 1874 date and its varieties. The one you noted as Greer-102 is here as F-106. He hasn't updated the free preview section to include F-114, but in the subscriber section it's there. Gerry initially estimated the rarity of this variety as "R6+" with (as mentioned) an estimated 500-1000% premium.

Ziggy, I just took a look at the F-106 on Gerry Fortin's website, that is a really cool coin, would love to find one of those.

Seateddime, as of now, the coin isn't for sale. But sometimes things change, if so, I would let you know.

All I know is that if you give a half dime with two arrows to Mr. Paseo,

He will eventually make one arrow "disappear". And I think you have a choice of caliber.

With 29 bids, I would have thought the price would have gone much higher. Good buy! Congratulations! image

They are scarce but show up.

I did not bid as my example is finer, still this went for a nice price.
