A distraction the Bears don't need right now

Jerry Jones is interested in Lovie Smith for Cowboys head coach. The questions will be endless from the reporters to him and his
players "How do you feel about the possibility that Lovie Smith could go to the Cowboys....... etc. etc."

Really bad timing from this to happen to the Bears.

Isn't that considered "tampering" by the NFL - looks like another big fine for Jerry.
  • Where is the link that quotes Jerry Jones as saying he is interested in Lovie Smith ??

Can't fine a guy because " word is going around " that Jones is interested in a certain coach

If I was Jerry Jones, I would, of course, be interested in Lovie Smith. But, why should Lovie Smith be interested in Jerry Jones's football team? He's got a good thing going now and can have a very secure future in a great football town without Jerry Jones's BS. Before "America's Team", there was the Bears....steeped in football tradition and loyalty.

  • But, why should Lovie Smith be interested in Jerry Jones's football team?

The rumor mill will start churning Tuesday with gossip placing Lovie Smith on Jerry Jones' wish list of head coaches. It's no secret that Lovie Smith grew up in Big Sandy, Texas, worshiping the Cowboys.

Lovie can't be too happy about being the lowest paid coach in the league year after year, or waiting to see how the playoffs go before an extension is offered. I think he'd listen to all offers. The Bears sure haven't been talking his ear off the last few years.

Why would Lovie leave Chicago for the wasteland that is Dallas?

Living in Chicago I have not heard one thing about that. We actually have this year to still talk about.

You never know what motivates a coach to leave or stay and some of it depends on the dynamics between management and the coaching staff. Either way Lovie is in an enviable situation. If going home does appeal to him I would guess Ron Rivera "Chico" would step in and they wouldn't miss a beat.

Dallas just lost a class guy as coach and if they convince Lovie to come home they will have another one. It reminds me of Landry in that regard. He's one of my favorite people in all of sports. He couldn't be more different from Johnson and Switzer and a better coach than Campo or Gailey. They could do a lot worse than Lovie.

I've always liked Tom Landry but I think Jerry Jones did the right thing in bringing in Jimmie Johnson. The game seems to have passed
Landry by and he didn't realize it.
