I wonder if they sell or sold these at the Statue of Liberty......Maybe something they sell to help raise funds for upkeep or something along those lines......In any case its a neat coin or medal......

Not a coin. A medal. But you might be onto something. I wonder if it is made from original metal that came from the statue itself, back when they did the big restoration?

I seem to recall that they were making medals from the scrap copper they replaced on the Statue during the restoration, if that’s the case this medal would have great intrinsic value

Yeah, that's what I was gettin' at.

I dunno if this is one of those or not, since I don't know much about them, but it would be neat if it were. It also might explain the somewhat crude "172" stamp on the back, if they were somebody's limited edition release or something.

Thanks guys - I'm still digging myself - I'll let you know if I find anything out.

edit - btw, the above theory sounds spot on and would be awesome.

Fascinating. The design is actually quite attractive. The fact that it's a uniface medal/token makes it even more interesting.

I agree - and if it's Liberty's copper, even neater.

Still no clue as to what it is on this end.
