  • Tony,
I will be so far out of your way that you will not even know that I am there.
I have collected these 60s' OPC sets off and on but I did recently list what I have graded from the 60's.
The 69 is new and the primary driver for this is to move a little closer to Dav in the Nearmint BB olympics.
I will work on all of those sets but in the background so I won't be to much in the way but I will be there.
    Thanks for the welcome.

  • TONY look out i have heard those words before from the FUZZ then the next thing you know as your looking asking yourself man that Fuzz is one though cookie imageimage

BUT ALSO 1 HECK OF A GOOD GUY image
  • Fuzz, good luck in your efforts. I have stuff to trade as well if you are so inclined!

One card from the set, one very very tough card will be your frustration!

That would be #217 John Donaldson......I have yet to see one centered that
was better than say a (5) ! Extremely tough card.

There are others in the set that have printers paper crinkle problems as well.
Centering, among other things gets your frustration level up as well!

Finding NM stuff as you go down the road just gets tougher and tougher!

In any case, keep in touch and once again, GOOD LUCK!

  • Most '69 OPC Yaz's are naturally miscut along the top left border. I've seen some high grade examples, but they're trimmed. This card and the Banks - with the natural printer's line - are the toughest stars IMO. I had a raw set, about 15% graded, but sold it last year.

    Hey Fuzz,

I never noticed this "wanted item" in your tag line before.

You a big Stenerud fan... huh?

  • Yes Mike, as it turns out I am.
I have taken crud over this before. We all know who is behind it in the sequence and I am willing to pay the premium for such. I had a few rack cases of these at one time. Opened a lot and saved the Chiefs stars on top. Never got that one but probably would have opened it at the time if I did.
    You have one?

    Hey Fuzzy,

I've got a bunch of '81 racks, plus I have a bunch of Stenerud cards ... would it be OK if I just taped some Stenerud cards on top of the racks for you?image

By the way, did you hear that noise? "clink"

    What is that sound? "clink"

Oh, I think I know! Isn't that the sound of a couple of your football olympic medals falling down a notch or two? image

and look out, because if PSA ever gets finished with my current submissions... you're going to sound like a Vegas slot machine paying off ... with all of the "clink'n" going on!

You keep working hard on them baseball sets for me.

    Who loves ya baby!

  • Mike,
So nice to hear from you again. Always great to hear from the spokesperson for the home for unwanted round cards.
Yes, I have been off playing BB lately and show up as second on the NM 60's BB chart and in the top ten for the 70's BB chart as well.
I have let some of my FB updating slip lately. So............ don't confuse lack of attention with lack of focus. I do have a few 70's sets that I can update which may change the picture a little. But I have done a better job a closing the gap here that Dav has done on the 50's.
I also notice that you managed to push me down from second all the way to ......... uh, ...... second. But I look forward to you taking second. In fact, I invite you to take second. Please, Please, Please.
I'll try to get a few minutes in the next week or so and take care of some updating. Just for you Big Guy.

  • 67StandUp is correct, the Yaz is another one that not only comes off-center, but is usually "WINGED CUT".
One edge is sometimes cut where it jots out at the top of the upper left corner. As seen on many Lou Brocks
and Bob Gibsons from the 1969 OPC.

There is currently up on ebay an auction for #217 John Donaldson that I was referring to as my toughest card to find.
The one up currently is very typical with approximate 5/95 Top to bottom centering.

When you do find one with even just slight better centering, it usually is "WINGED CUT" or has the dreaded
"PRINTERS PAPER CRINKLE" that the many 69's are notoriously known for.

Thats my 2cents worth for now!

  • Tony,
Thanks for the insights. You still are way ahead of where I can intelligently discuss on this set. My part of the country doesn't get much raw OPC so there is nothing to look at. I will be depending on mostly buying already graded and that does not show up often. My apologies for shoulda hijacking a wonderful OPC thread. He just doesn't understand rectangular cards.

    Shouldbeena,
OK tough guy. Just for you. I updated a few sets today and had some spec # problems. Just leaves more for next time. So......... I updated my 70 K FB. Not only did my set move back to number 3 (I think that adds one for the good guys), but I listed my second set today. Funny it came in 20th........... just one ahead of, you guessed.
Also added most of the rest of my Salada coins. Did you notice my set only went up through #123? Now it doesn't. That bronze is so much lighter isn't it.
I also got some of my 77 and 78 Fleer added though most didn't. Seems I still have first in 78 and whoops........ I guess I am back in first on the 77 with plenty more to come.
Anywhere else you want to play?
Welcome back............... I miss this stuff. I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.

"I have done a better job of closing the gap here than Dav has in the 50s"

Ooh that was cruel. Thats because thereare fewer meaningless sets in the 50s :-).

I hope you did see who is breathing down the neck of the leader in 52 Bowman Large.

My team" had a meeting do discuss strategy now that the "evil empire" is apparently panicing out of some of his sets. Lets hear about the vintage basketball strategy Jeremy--buy high then sell low to the same person you bought them from in the first place???
Sounds like the Evil Empire is in full retreat Fuzz--
  • SOM,
Shouldabeena (Mike) is mostly found talking smack on the FB threads here. He takes a lot of grief of his round cards addiction which has won several awards but after all ...... they have no corners. He is absolutley hysterical and part of what makes the Olympics threads fun. If you didn't look, his 77 Flleer FB is now all the way to 4% complete. Hard to believe he could be caught. But he does talk it with the best of them.

    Dav,
I assumed that you were asleep, I snuck by you in 66 BB without a peep. You were close when you suggested we divide it up and I was barely on the list for what you assigned me. A little effort has made some progress. Hey that sharp stick "Thats because there are fewer meaningless sets in the 50s" leaves a mark. Let me do some work and I'll see if I can find you some meaningless sets. Sometimes it is easier to out flank them than to run smack into the tanks. Good to hear form you again. Congratulations on all of your completed sets. You are the top closer in this hobby by far.

Oh, I'm sorry Fuzz ... did you think I'd already listed all my cards?

OK, just as a small preview for you ... I went over and updated a couple more sets and snatched up 2 more quick GOLD medals for the 1969 Tresler Comets set and the 1964 Wheaties Stamps. "clink, clink" ... and yes, unfortunately we'll have to ask you for your medal back, since you just fell out of contention again.

Also, since you seemed sooooo excited over your recent jump up in the 1962 Salada's ... I promise I'll over take you a little slower on that set. Maybe let you enjoy your medal for another week or two? I just went and added a few more to my set to show you that I could creep right up behind you and tap you on the shoulder .... BOOO!! image

I'm honestly just afraid that if I loaded up all the rest of my Salada coins right now ... the sound of my set "screaming past yours" might be more than your fuzzy eardrums could handle.

So you keep on focusing on my 70's Fleer sets, while I go get all of these 40's, 50's and 60's cards graded.

    ShouldabeenaSOM

PS- Hey Fuzz, on a more serious note; speaking of Fleers ... do you know if PSA grades the 72 through 75 Fleer cloth patches? I was going to submit a few, but I think they might be too fragile for the graders to handle? The darn things come apart too easy plus they tend to stick to peenysleeves, card savers and top loaders. Also, let me know if you have any needs list (or dupes lists) for any of the 70's or early 80's Fleer years. I've been finishing up those raw sets recently and I'm always looking for new trading buddies.

  • Shoulda,
First, I got no answer for the 69 tressler. I have enough to take fourth but that doesn't buy you much in the medal table. Congrats.
Second, On the Salada........ I know I have no chance in the long run. After all they are round. I will put up a litle fight though.
No you know the real reason. You have run me off FB and on to OPC's. But don't tell Tony yet.

As far as the Fleer, I would suspect so as they grade all the Topps stuff that is similar from just a few years earlier. I don't have much extra in that though as I bought full sets, unopened boxes and the like and never did much in the singles route. Have been buying pre-graded to keep you looking over your shoulder.

And I assume that you are on the payroll of the empire as you are the one keeping me from pushing him around pretty good at the moment. Please make sure Jeremy sends you your cut. You deserve it.

I think you've got me confused with Skinsfan. He's the evil one on everyone's payroll! Old Jeremy wouldn't send me any checks, he's still mad at me for thumping him in fantasy football this year.

No, unfortunately I'm just an average guy, with average oddball and round cards, humming a happy little tune. Feel free to sing along .... "The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round. The wheels on the bus go round and round, all through fuzz's town."

I'd sing the second verse to ya, but Wolfbear told me it's time to put my muzzle back on.
