Nice coin...looks like the strike weakness limits the grade....does look a bit rubbed though but could be the photo...I like it!

Looks nice and original, typical O mint weak strike.

I recently bought my first rattler morgan - was really impressed by the price. (graded 83-o MS64) $60.49

I'd say you've done nicely on your first 2!

The good news is that collecting Morgans is fun a easy. You can get about 50 differrent MS coins for dirt cheap.

The bad news is that it SPOILS you for other series.

You say to yourself, "I can get dozens of differrent really nice Silver Dollars for under $50." Then you say to yourself, "let me pick up the MS half dollars from the same years. "

That's when the reality hits you that you aren't getting those Barber halves in mint state for under $50. Too bad.

That's why I say that Morgans spoil you -- makes you think all classics are going to be easy. I'm sure it's also why they are such a popular gateway drug...

Enjoy the high! It's a good one.

I started to collect Barber halves and realized very quickly that they are DAMN expensive. This is a very very true statement, and one that any new collector who starts with Morgans (like me) will realize!

    Nice additions Jeff.

I enjoy looking for VAMs as well but my main focus is on the Barber Halves but the comments about $ are sure true. It's all good though.

    Good job. image

Thanks for the info on the barbers. I am already looking at other coins to go into. I will focus on Morgans for a good while though.

Great start Jeff, the Morgan series is fun and challenging. When you start collecting the proofs, that is when you know how fun it can really get.

    Good first picks image

    Nice!

I especially like those old "rattler" holders with cool coins inside.

    Jeff,
Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of collecting. I read you are going to stay with Morgan Dollars for a while and that's great. I'd sure suggest you pick up a copy of the Morgan Dollar book that Q. David Bowers has out. It will give you a better feel for what to look for and what to avoid. <Not saying there's anything wrong with your picks so far, just making a suggestion>.
    Best always,
    Pete

I like the nice contrast on the reverse of the 81-S.
