I'd be interested. Thes last one was fun and I'd like to try it again. Suggestion: $312 is pretty pricy, and a good chunk of that is for the 1973 pack. If we added 1984 and took out 1973, we'd still have the chance for some great rookies but the price per person would be about $200.

You left out the cost of the 1977s.

  • I am in.

Whoever is organizing, my email is ssgunnip@yahoo.com.

    I don't ever check my PM's.

    Thanks
  • Alfonz - BBCE does not currently have an 77's,

Joe - That would be fine with me, 84 has some great rookies.

Hopefully someone will want to organize this!

Since you listed the 1977 rookie cards, I thought you may have overlooked.

I would be interested in but without the 1973 Pack.
  • Hey Chris not to highjack your thread but heres some suggestions. Ive put 2 rips together and helped with a third. The 70s/80s baseball rip we currently got going heres some things I learned. You go to far back into the 70's and A it gets real expensive and B some boxes only have 24 packs which now creates lots of problems. So stick with boxes that have 36 packs.

Heres a suggestion do a 76-86 you still go back into the 70s but now all boxes have 36 packs and get 36 people in to split the cost. Plus theres still alot of nice hofers to pull all the way to 86

I ran the numbers with 76/77/78/79/80/81/82/83/84/85/86 wax no cellos. would run about 152 per person now the 77 box would be an iffy but dealing with steve at bbc exchange if we need it hes pretty good at tracking stuff down.

Ive got a few more weeks tied up in my baseball rip but I would be happy to organize this rip or help guide someone else if they want to take it on. Just keep drumming up interest Chris and let me know i'd be happy organize this rip. Im definatly in for any rip.

    Regards

Count me in - make sure to negotiate the price w/ Steve. He can offer a better price on most of the boxes. If you'd like, I can call and negotiate.

I vote strongly for 80sjunkies' 76-86 idea. Seems like less headache being even numbers, and includes the (more?) popular 85 and 86 topps.

As it stands currently, I'll join in for The Partial.

  • Hello Chris put me down for the smaller lot and take me off the full lot list. Also I know for a fact steve will most likely give us a nice discount off of that total so I would call him and negotiate and we could all save a littleimage

Plus no offense Chris have you been in on any of the other rips. Dont take this the wrong way just haven't seen you around much or know you very well and trusting someone with 6k is a big deal. I know I'm not the only one with this on there mind. I wont say who else image Maybe you could enlighten us a bit about yourself. Again i hope you dont take this the wrong way. I just had a few people PM me with valid concerns and Voiced there opinions

I hear ya 80's. While I have no reason not to trust ChrisC, we all may have gotten a flase sense of security around here that the previous rips that 80's, AJW, Bob(hockey) and I have all put together. It just would not be good if someone took advantage of the trust we all have instilled in our community.

I am really looking forward to this rip as I am first and formeost a FB guy, but I think that we need to legitimize before some funds start changing hands.

I know that I and probably Gary(80') would be willing to help facillitate the payment collection on this rip if the purchasing members would like. I also want to appologize to ChrisC for potentially hijacking this, but we have a good thing going here with these rips. I would hate to see someone come in and take advantage of us all.

I don't mean to sound off base here, but as I and Gary have noted, ChrisC has not yet participated in a rip.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas on this?

  • 80s/Zef,

It only takes one shady particpant to screw up a really great thing for everyone else. I love it that people are wanting to jump in with rips -- but a little caution and due-diligence is probably a healthy thing.

To be fair to Chris, though, he did mention early on that he was looking for someone else to organize this. Given that, he should be thrilled that you and/or Gary are interested in helping out with the logistics.

He'll be back on Friday and hopefully by that time enough interest will be here to really get things moving.

Thanks Chris for getting the ball rolling here.
Thanks Gary/Zef for stepping up and watching over our board.

    Kudos all around.

Ok, here's the deal. I talked w/ Steve and he can offer 10% and free shipping - however, someone outside of IL will have to place the order.....(for sales tax purposes). I was going to coordinate but can't since I live in IL.

Guys, I agree 100% and the thought crossed my mind and I am sure ChrisC would much rather the headache go to somebody else!

We can wait till he gets back on Friday and then we can go from there.

Again, I am in for the small break 99.00 or so!

  • I would have no problem organizing a football rip . Again dont want to step on chris toes but i think a poll like i did with the baseball rip to see what we all want for a football rip would work. Ive put a few rips together now and pretty much know what to expect and how to handle it. No offense chris but I really think the way you are trying to set it up with big lots and small lots wont get enough people signed up plus cellos are a bad idea most of us rip looking for gradeable stuff and cellos are junk for that. Another tip just because steve doesnt have it on his website check da cardworld there a viable and just as trustworthy when steves out. Plus usually steve can give them a call and get us a good price from them when hes out of something
    regards
