Why is the 1952 Topps Reprint set (1983) worth so much?

I mean, I know everyone loves 1952 Topps and all (and I own this reprint set myself), but sheesh, it's a REPRINT set! Why would a REPRINT set sell for around $150-$200 on Ebay? Were these limited edition (5000-10,000 sets?) like the Tiffany sets that started the next year (1984)? After all, the reprint set box does look just like the kind they used for the Tiffany sets; that can't be a conicidence.

at one time they were selling for much more. bbce had some at nationals in chicago a couple of years ago for $225, which i bought one of course.

i sold my reprint set 1 month ago (in a fancy schmancy binder no less) for $125 measley bucks.

    $100 lost to the wash.

They were limited as to how many I am not sure. They were low cost like in 1983 at release time.I know I cant afford a real one so I picked my set up and just purchased the actual missing ones.I purchased mine at release time.

just normal supply and demand. since the originals are sooo expensive, it is the cheapest way to experience the set. just my opinion.

That happens (what julen pointed out.) Too bad. image But I agree - it's supply and demand as an "official" Topps product of '52s that's a lot more affordable than the actual '52 set.

I believe they were $49.99 when they first came out. Too steep for a 12 year old.
  • Its not? You'll find many sets wayyyy over valued in the card guides. Look at the refractors of the 90's. I told the bozos buying them then their not worth 20,000 dollars a set. Buy the real older cards, stop wasting your time on this lottery based mentality new stuff. I too bought the 1952 Topps reprint set, I sold it about 6-8 months ago. When I really looked it over, I said this set is poorly made, many cards were way off center, the printing was terrible etc. I said the same about my 1984 Donruss set. I unloaded a lot of stuff. Now I got my 1956 set, 1975-1979's and thats basically it.
