1922 Peace Dollar .. Double Nostril

Hello To All ...

Any idea what VAM this coin may be? The coin has a distinct "double nostril" and distinct double date. In addition, there's clear doubling on the obverse letters L .. I .. T.. Y in Liberty along with doubling on the S and T in TRVST.

Thank You ... Ken

Machine doubling, common for the date and for many Peace dollar dates. No premium and not worthy of a separate VAM designation on them but they do look neat.

Yes, I am aware of "machine doubling" on 1922 Peace Dollars. However, that is NOT machine doubling on the nostril.

    Thank you for the response.

    Hello ...

As requested, I have added another image of the nostril.

Just noticed there's a 1922P VAM-38 with a double nostril. However, the coin I posted has different features (some noted in the original posting) than the VAM-38. Any assistance with identification is appreciated.

Flat and shelf like. I agree with Coxe, machine or mechanical doubling.

The date is most definitely strike doubled. The nostril might be die doubled. Impossible to tell form the image and could only be assessed in hand. However, the direction of the doubling is what would be expected coincident with that date machine doubling. If it looks like strike doubling, send it to Leroy to assess. He'd make the call if it was strike, VAM-38 or perhaps a new find.

    Hi Ken,
The date shows strike or machine doubling, not hub doubling.

As for the nose...it appears that the upper lip on your example shows the same type doubling. Can you post a pic showing the same profile as the VAM 38 B&W pic ? The pic would include both the nostril and lips.
Hope it is a new one for you.

    Thanks in advance.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Below is the requested image. Also, after viewing the coin again under the scope, there's not a hint of doubling on the lips.

Looks pretty close. Have you compared the reverse to B2ad?

I just don't see any doubling on the reverse ... none as the B2ad describes or anywhere else on the reverse. I hope that helps.

    Hello To All ...

Additional images are posted below that show a die line within the nostril. Also, there's two die dots/metal under and in the upper lip.

I'll try to provide images of the lip metal later on.

    Thank You
