I do as well - especially since the spaghetti hair makeover of the early 90s

It reminds me a lot of this bust from Williamsburg.

I liked Laura's image also...I seem to remember something about politics playing a part in the final selection of the design back then.

i was wondering that myself. I would think most people would prefer this design........
it's the more stone faced washington, like the bust posted by pentimento. To me it looks more like
washington the general and less like washington the president.

Looks to me like the eagle is squatting to take a dump.

Both Frasers were geniuses. Period. The '99 $5 adaptation of her design doesn't do the original justice, being in lower relief and cartooned up a little, with a perfectly flat field. I was thinking how about petitioning Congress to reinstate that design once the State Quarters are done, but the modern mint's execution probably wouldn't be worthy of the design.

The obverse of the Flanagan's design has better fields and proportion. Also, I believe Flanagan's Washington looks closer to the bust of Williamsburg. Fraser's reverse is brilliant.

You know, I just noticed that too.

    I like the obverse, though.
