An important question for the group re: Pre-Long Beach auctions

Did anyone look at the toner dollars in the Goldberg auction?

Are these pictures true representations or just juiced?

There was a nice run of toner seated, barber material as well.
The Trade dollar proofs were heavily filled with toners as well. Almost seemed like too many of them in one place.

In my experience, many of the coins in their sales - particularly toners - look very different in hand than in the catalogs. In-person inspection is highly recommended. Highly.

Different. Some better, many worse, most less vivid.

Those images are juiced up the whazzinga. The colors are correct but not nearly as vibrant as the images make them look. I've noticed this for a while with Goldberg's images.

If you are basing your bidding on the images and have not seen the coins in hand I'd bid very conservatively.

I know some folks have cited Goldberg's as their favorite of the majors for imaging but I never cared for them. I never could get a real sense for luster from their shots and in hand is the only way to get a grip on it. That's true of them all though too. Still, this is a lot better than years ago when absentee bidding without lot viewing meant a b&w catalogue photo that wasn't all that big and that was for only select lots.

I owned about 5 or 6 of those Morgans at one time or another.See the coins in hand or you might be very unhappy. The mediocre ones look better than the better ones in the images..JMO

You should be the judge of your question. It is up to you to view the coins in person and make your judgements then.

I would love to see the coins myself, however I don't have the time to fly to California this time around. Oh well...

For high value coins then it does make sense to use an agent to at least screen them for you.
