1903 S Morgan

picked up this one at a show yesterday for $345. In my opinion it is a solid XF45. Agree? It has real nice, original gun metal blue color and still has a good amont of luster tucked away in the protected areas. Any ideas on value?

I agree with xf45, I think I see a few breast feathers showing thru. Very nice. Hopefully the face dings won't stop it from slabbing if you go that route, I doubt that they would. Huge spread from xf40 to au50 in this date, 425 to 2200 "book", couldn't give you a great estimate.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

those few face hits are barely noticable in hand, they just caught the light in this pic

Yea, I think that is a 45. Looks like a $500 coin to me. $600 in a PCGS slab.

Is it a 45 or a 40? Yes... but I'm not sure which one. It probably depends on lustre and hairlines when seen in hand.

If I was a good enough grader to split hairs that finely on a consistent basis, I'd probably be a coin dealer. But I'm not, and the difference in value is $330 Ask vs. whatever the much higher going rate is for a 45. Even with the marks on the cheek, I love the originality and "look" of the coin, but I don't have the guts to pay for it raw as a 45.
    When in doubt, don't.

Neither do I!image Even though I do think it is a 45. I'd rather do like he did, and pay for a raw 40 that I thought was a 45.image

Hard to tell from the picture how much luster is left. I would be reluctant to buy it raw as an xf45. With that said, I could easily see it in a ngc 45 holder.pcgs? ....roll the dice

Either way its a nice example of a better date. ...
