Would this be a nice investment in a few years?

I was thinking about buying it because it's a PSA 9. Not sure what the population report is on this card.

I know Levi prices are outrageous, but looking at the long run maybe 5 to 10 years from now, do you think this is a great investment or not?

This guy has a PSA 8

PSA 8 for $4000.

Is this a good investment?

  • no. the 8 is borderline, the 9 is way overpriced.

That 9 doesn't look very good. I think the centering would hurt the price when you go to resell it. I think the 8 actually has better eye appeal than the 9.
  • thanks guys, I guess I'll hold off on it.

  • if you've got the $$$$ that PSA 8 is awesome!! Yes, it should appeciate in 8-10 years as well.

I'd take that card over the 9 anyday...

For that matter....you'd be better off buying 5 of those PSA 8's if they were all that nice...instead of just one 9.

I would take the 8 over the 9 all day long. But there are some that buy the holder and not the card and they surface daily. Both would return money in the long run. Both are not on my radar image

  • borderline not meaning the card is borderline, borderline meaning as a great investment. The PSA 8 is awesome. In April of 1995 the card sold for $25,000 and 10 years later, $16,500. In late 2004, the same grade card sold for a little over $3400. In November of 2006, $4000. One example sold for $4800 on a Mastro Auction last year. But, on average, sales have been a bit under $4000. I am not saying $4000 is a bad price either. It is what one would expect to pay. But the member asked if this was a "great investment". The data suggests this is not a "great investment" but it seems like a safe one.

  • Aren't most of their cards overpriced anyway?

Crave are you saying that the 52 mantle bowman in 8 has gone down in value? from 25k to 4k?

Not sure if I read you correctly.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • my mistake, Steve. Thanks for pointing this out. April 1995 sale $5250. April 2006 was $3400. I was looking at the '51 Bowman. My mistake but clearly does not change the conclusion. Might have something to do with the increase in pops (known pops) after PSA started in 1999 I would imagine. Maybe that's why it has stopped declining since the pops are stable now. Any idea?
