Paypal reviewing a payment? after I shipped? WTH?

I sold an item thursday and shipped it yesterday, using paypal's shipping service. Today I get this message -
This payment has been selected for review and we have opened an investigation.
We have placed a temporary hold on the funds until our investigation is complete.
What? After they know I've shipped? This ever happen to anyone else?

Here's what happened to me. A buyer asked for quick shipping..as it was her son's birthday..and she needs the cards for the next weekend. I always ship same day if possible...or within 24 hours of payment.
The auctions end on a Sunday night...she pays within 20 minutes...cards go out 1st thing Monday am..with a delivery confirmation.
End of story right?
Not....that Friday..I got the same message as you!
It seems the ladies SON was on her Ebay account and her paypal account...and had bought a few Jordans for HIMSELF!! lol
The solution....they put the money back into my account within 20 minutes of my phone call and me sending over all emails and auction details. Afterall, how was "I" supposed to know it was her kid and not her on the PC...second..I mailed and had proof that it was sent to a CONFIRMED Paypal address. Lastly, the P.O.D. proved that someone at that address took the package from the carrier.
Don't sweat it....call Paypal customer service and get to the bottom of it directly. Don't wait for the emails to come to you!!
Now..if it was from a hijacked account..or you didn't get Proof of Delivery...or you shipped to an unconfirmed address....then start sweating NOW!!
The buyer has bought thousands in cards recently with great feedback. It was a $279 + shipping transaction, I shipped to the buyer's confirmed addy. This really stinks.
<< <i>Thansk 5 stat, I just called - I was told they have all the info they need (tracking #, etc.) now I have to wait until the package is delivered to be reimbursed under the seller protection policy? The rep was not really that helpful.

you will be fine, the funds are just held right now, as soon as item says delivered you win and the negative goes away. If it was 279 dollars you sent with signature confirmation as per Paypal's buyer protection right? If you didn't your in a world of hurt.

<< <i>Stories like these make me seriously consider accepting only MOs and checks. >>
I agree, but the problem you run in to then is some buyers don't bid because they like the "Protection" that Paypal gives them. How many times on this board have we identified suspicious auctions and one of the "Red Flags" is that Paypal is not accepted.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Thank you for contacting PayPal.
Thank you for your prompt response with the requested information
regarding this transaction. However, the tracking information must show
shipment to the address in the Transaction Details page for this
transaction to be covered under our Seller Protection Policy.
The buyer has paid you with potentially fraudulent funds. I recommend
that you contact the shipping carrier immediately and have the shipments
stopped and returned to you.
Please contact us as soon as the shipper's website is updated to show
that item was shipped to the address in the Transaction Details page so
that we may continue our investigation.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.
Sincerely,

PayPal, an eBay Company
In the meantime, the guy is getting feedback for big ticket items, and regularly buying and selling on ebay. What a joke.
It happened to me in November or October.
I was never notified on what happened after I had shipped the card.
I finally emailed them last week and they said they had placed the funds back in my account in December.
At least this had a good ending but still, you would think they would tell you when it gets resolved.
You'll probably get the money back. Just hold onto those emails from paypal and inquire next month if your money isn't put back into your account.

Yup.
On the coin board, you can read about the warning notice
that the American Numismatic Association has issued to its
members, regarding the proliferation of COUNTERFEIT
Western Union Money Orders. (These are the ones that
you can purchase at the 7-11 and other big/little stores.)
It looks like while PayPal is difficult to deal with sometimes,
the only EBAY alternative is USPS Money Orders. These can
be cashed at the post office PRIOR to shipping.
While google-checkout has made their service free to sellers
for ALL of 2007, EBAY refuses to allow its use.
Hopefully you will make out alright still but this should serve as a wakeup call.If you lose a little business because you no longer accept Paypal it will probably be nickle & dime buyers. Most serious collectors will pay with whatever means needed to get items they need for their collections and after a while you will develop regular customers anyway.I haven't lost any business since I stopped taking Paypal. In fact my E-Bay business is better than ever.If you have the inventory you will get the bidders regardless of types of payment accepted.
I ask why, if the seller paid me with fraudulent funds, he is allowed to keep using Paypal (he has feedback from auctions ending a few days ago). The answer? "They don't tell us these things."
Again, what a joke.
I tried to take away the logo in my ebay selling format and can't figure it out.
any help appreciated.
Steve
nevermind I figured it out, they do make it difficult.
paypal/ebay needs to be slapped down a tad.
of EBAY.
If, each time they abuse a customer, they were made to deal
with either a small-claims action or a regular-claims complaint,
PayPal would rapidly undergo a miraculous reformation.
Now that PayPal is the ONLY source of "buyer protection" on
EBAY, things are going to get much worse for both buyers and
sellers.
