    Why is this special?

It looks like the same type of junk that has been coming out for the last 5 years in terms of patches, swatches, sticker autos, logos? and hacked cuts.

    Loves me some shiny!

To each their own, personally I don't understand how people collect vintage but I don't bash the cards.

I collect modern cards and am a big fan of them,
but would have to agree with carew4me that the ones in the pix look like crap.

I'm still trying to figure out why an auto of player 'x' that's numbered to 25 would cost 5x more if it came from Exquisite than an auto from the exact same player with the exact same serial numbering that came from a less expensive set.

It's amazing how much dough people will plunk down for these modern autos. I agree with boopotts that the design is less than appealing, too. I'll take vintage cards any day over the hype.

from my experience with the value of many of the cards dont hold well over a year. I have been able to pick up many Favre patches from last years exquisite for well under $50 each. Yes they havent been autos but those dont seem to be selling that well either.

    "I can't see them either."

    ///////////////////////////////

I see them and they do not look as ugly to me as they do
    to some other folks.

They are really just part of a gambling game. The odds
of getting something good are probably better than they
    are with a government lottery.

I do agree that they seem a bit expensive.

Last year's rookie class as a whole was disappointing in season 2 this has to do a lot with it.... No big time players...

The only players that saw move in cards:

    Reggie Brown- Eagles

    Mark Clayton- Ravens

    Marion Barber- Cowboys

    Demarcus Ware- Cowboys

    Negative moves-

    Caddy

    Braylon Edwards

Andrew Walter- Card was selling 300 when he was the starter now goes 70

Troy Williamson- were going 400 during offeseason can be had for 100 right now, stone hands will do that to a wr.

I think this year' rc class will carry the rookie product.

I think everyone needs to see the exquisite cards in hand, the pics that beckett took are pretty nasty.
  • If 06 Exquisite FB is half as successful as 03-04 BKB, $23K for ten cases will seem insanely cheap. I bought a box of 03-04 BKB when it launched... I didn't lose money on the results, BUT let's just say I wish I hadn't opened it image

  • ugly stuff. but, i have no doubt there is money to be made, short term, as long as there are buyers who can be duped into thinking it is a good investment. on the other hand, if it keeps kids interested in the hobby and they like the cards, it isn't all bad. let's see what it's worth in ten years. my guess, pretty much zero.

Well, now that the Peter Lynch of the modern card market has weighed in I guess the conversation is closed. FWIW I don't see a single post in this thread that debates whether or not the OP is going to make money on the cases he bought, only some speculation as to what the end buyer can expect to get for these cards 10 years from now and some other remarks related to the aesthetic attributes (or lack thereof) of the cards in question. But I'd be lying if I said I was surprised that his nuance escaped you.

  • I collect both vintage and modern and if there is any downside to this board, it's whenever someone brings up a topic about modern cards (especially expensive modern cards), the tone turns negative. The other are the responses with absolutely NO knowledge about the product or cards.
if it keeps kids interested in the hobby and they like the cards, it isn't all bad
First off, this product is not geared to kids. If the cards haven't freaked out our vintage supporters enough, check out these stats. At $2500 per case, there are 3 BOXES per case! Each box contains 1 PACK and each pack contains 6 CARDS.image

I don't collect this product because I'm a set builder, and it's just too hard and expensive to build a set with all the shortprints. I do build sets of other high end products (SP Authentic), but even that has become more difficult recently.

The card companies that produce this product are gearing it towards the hi $$ collector. The after market eventually decides it's worth.

To answer Boopotts question as to why someone would want a numbered auto from Exquisite as opposed to a less expensive set, it comes down to taste and what someone likes to collect. I collect SP Authentic Sign of the Times autograph cards. I can get the same autos on a Topps or Fleer card, but I prefer the style and photography of SP Authentic.

We should all collect what we like, respect what others collect, and promote the hobby.... not bash it.

my biggest grip other than price with exquisite is the overall condition of the cards. the ones i picked up from last years football will probably grade less than a 8. when you look at alot of them on ebay they seem to all have corner problems. i doubt that the people that are droping the $$$ for the pack/box, are dinging corners on the cards they want to recoup their money on. for the price and since the guy had packs each box this is pretty bad QC or lack there of.

So you start a thread about how this product looks, I say it looks alot like all of the other modern crap lately, so therefor....

    I have offended you?

These kids are sensitive these days....Did mommy rub your butt with lotion and tell you how special it was growing up?

Also, if this guy has $23,000 to move, dont you think he has a vested interest in putting lipstick on this pig?

    Loves me some shiny!
  • fabfrank..you're 100% correct. Kid's aren't buying the boxes or the cases. They are buying the individual cards that came from the boxes for a few bucks apiece, and in some cases a little more, on ebay. I'm sure the speculators know what they're doing and have the disposable income to either flip the cases/boxes or gamble on some nice pulls.

Yup, I busted 12 cases of 05-06 Exquisite at national with the creator of the product and let him know the cards are too loose in the packs, I suggested maybe putting all items in one touches and raising the price of 10 bucks per box to what it would cost to do it....

Rod Carew- Offended, not really, Im in the black on the product and really don't care what people say, Just was pointing out that I do not personally enjoy vintage, yet I don't mind looking, browsing at history... If I would've been offended I would've just argued your comments.

As far as kids buying singles etc... This is pretty much true, I get a lot of the exquisite cards I want by buying singles, However I know 16 year olds that bust boxes/cases and Many people my age(19) buying cases, infact between my friend Josh and I we have 35 cases ordered, however unlike me, I believe he is going to gamble and break half of them if not all. He loves the rookie crop and loves to gamble.

I agree with all this, but at the same time I don't think there's any harm done from people expressing their opinions on a new product. Almost everyone in this thread has said one of two thing: either a) they don't like the look of the cards, or b) they think the price of these cards will have dropped considerably in the next year or so. Statement 'a' is a personal judgment, which everyone IMO has the right to express, and statement 'b' is based largely on historical trends which can be readily verifited by the secondary market performance of almost all modern singles 1+ years after their release.

It's one thing to say that something doesn't pop your corn, so to speak, but quite another to say that other people are morons because they don't like what you do. So far as I can tell nobody participating in this thread has crossed that line.

Being a collector of both Modern and Vintage let me say that my opinion is that these cards are FUGLY!

And my opinion doesnt give a single care if money can be made on it or not. I realize that one person's garbage is another person's treasure.

What really burns me are jerk offs who think that everyone who collects vintage thinks that modern is garbage. Sorry, but that isnt the case. I think there is plenty of great looking modern product out there just as I think there is garbage looking vintage out there too.

I havent seen anyone on their high horse in here bashing the "value" of the product but speculation of what the future modern market holds. A valid speculation, yes? Any different than vintage speculation? Hell no.

As there are those who do feel that modern is garbage, there are those who feel that vintage is garbage. That's what makes this such a great county...you can have your opinion!

If you like your 2007 Exquisite FB then that is great! Enjoy them! I hope you make tons of cash if thats what you are trying to do!

    Happy Collecting!

You can't possibly be a doctor. There's just no way. Not that all doctors are necessarily the brightest candles in the menorah, but you do have to have at least a half dozen or so firing synapses in order to learn basic anatomy. Although what you lack in intelligence you more than make up for in unabashed narcissism, so maybe you did somehow slither through med school.

In any event, I'd be curious to hear the connection between my assessment of Jessica Simpson's looks-- which I do stand by, incidentally, as I think she looks like a drag queen-- and my assessment of your silly little post on the subject of '07 Exquisite.

Edit to amend: On second thought, I'm actually not at all curious to read your interpretation of the above mentioned connection. I'm sure it would immediately degenerate into one of those puerile and prejorative posts that you enjoy so much, and there's no sense polluting another thread with your/our bickering.
