Anyone else hoarding 1932-S quarters?

Dave99BDave99B Posts: 8,959 ✭✭✭✭✭
I met a collector last week who told me he owned 29 PCGS/NGC/ANACS 32-S quarters, in grades ranging from AG to VF (most are in the lower AG/Good range).

Is this guy nuts?

Dave
Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

If you're going to hoard any circ. Washington date, what's better than the '32-D or S? Given the way they've gone up in value the last few years, I'd say he's pretty darn smart.
    When in doubt, don't.

I think he's smart. I've never had any problems selling lowere end 32-D or 32-S 25C. Another one is the 34-D in AU.

I hoard 1927-s quarters myself (nice g-vg specimens or F specimens with a VG price) ..... they cost a fraction of the price with a lower mintage and although they have a high availability in low grades, from what I can see the availability is still lower then 1932-s quarters... but whatever floats your boat. image They are sure to be a popular coin. Plus, anyone can stumble upon a cleaned fugly specimen but nice uncleaned specimens are much more uncommon.. those are the ones I shoot for.

    Sorry, I think he's nuts.

At this precise moment, there are 6 for sale on the Heritage inventory page. 7 more in the upcoming Heritage Long Beach auction. 5 more in the upcoming Goldberg Long Beach auction. 6 on David Lawrence's site. 1 on J.J. Teaparty's site (they must be out on a buying trip right now looking for some more).

I could go on and on, but frankly I'm exhausted.

No, he's not nuts. If you're going to hoard a particular date, that's a good one to hoard.

I told a non-collector what I paid for a coin one time. He thought I was nuts.

It's a great date and mint mark to accumulate. He's nothing but right on, IMO. They are always in demand. They are easy to sell. They will never be common. He'll make out well with that strategy IMO.

No, he certainly is NOT nuts. Lower end 32-D & S Washingtons bring better returns that higher graded specimen.

On my return from Virginia yesterday I made my regular two coin shop stops, first shop had (4) 32-s quarters in Vg-Vf, second one had (7) in g-vf. I even thought to myself where are all the 32-s quarters coming from. If the hoard was put together a few years ago, then he will come out financially ahead, but if they are being bought at todays levels, I fear not. IMO, currently overpriced and overrated at current levels. If hoarding is being done becuase someone likes this date, or for something to do, then by all means. If looking for return, not such a good date at todays price levels.

Also, last weekend at the raleigh show, i must have seen 2 dozen 32-d and s quarters in circ grades for sale on the bourse.

From a collecting position, the date hoarder is able to closely examine the specific date/mint for varieties better than most.image

Interesting thread. But, don't most of us do that? If I look at my collections I find that
I hoard CC dollars, Seated and Morgan. My wife thinks I'm nuts as I can't find the guts
    to sell any CC's.
