Rangers stick ?'s

I have a NY Rangers stick, signed by the entire team that I wish to dump soon. Two sigs I recognize; Herb Brooks and Barry Beck.

Don't believe this team (approx 1981-85?) was loaded with stars.

My knowledge of all Modern memorabilia is zippo and because I shoot righty, this would be worthless for street hockey.

1. Would it be wise to sell now or hang onto it until the NHL is back in good favor with the public?

2. Approx value?

pardon the lame photos...

I'm totally clueless about hockey - I know it's on ice.

I was stationed at Ft. Hamilton, Brooklyn when they won the Cup for the first time in a zillion yrs! There was great excitement - I think I even saved some newspaper stuff.

Knuckles would be one of the best authorities since he's a big hockey man and does all those auto cards.

    Good luck on the sale!

  • From the looks of it (and I'm guessing) it appears to be just a standard stick that was signed by the team. It wasn't a team issued left over, was it? Easy way to tell is if there is a name or number at the top of the shaft. If you can get some more pics of the sigs, we might be able to decipher who they are and pinpoint the year. The more knowledge you have, the better it will sell.

Edit to add: If you Ebayed it right now with the info you have, 60-100. If we document everyone on it 100+
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Great, my kid lives in the ghetto on Flushing Ave at Wykoff...

What year did the Rangers win? Were the NYR any good in the early 80's?

edit; Okay, I'll try to post some more shots when the thing arrives. I would think the Brooks sig alone would be substantial but hey, he's just the coach.
Thanks for the help, Steve F
  • Rangers won it all in 1994. '81-'85 was the Islanders great years (at least 81-83), so I'm not sure how the Rangers compared.

Edit again: Rangers were playoff bound all four years, getting booted I believe each playoff season by the Islanders. Barry Beck was captain during those years.

  • Any other names that you recognize? Brooks coached the Rangers from 81-85 and Barry Beck was there during the same timeframe. If you recognize some of the names then you can compare it to the list of teams found here: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/teamseasons.php?tid=48

As for value, it all depends, but I would think somewhere around $100. But you could get surprised and get more.
    Thanks

  • Post-1980/81 Rangers teams were distinctly devoid of stars, after Phil Esposito left.
