Hard lesson Learned, the board is a valuable education

4 years ago I bought a Jefferson collection in an old holder 1938 - 1955. I was thrilled at the purchase and I sent in the 1950-D to PCGS and got a MS66FS. I sold it on Ebay for a nice price which paid for 1/3 of the price of the collection. In December of 2006 I pulled it out and sold the Wartime Nickels on the Bay. I noticed that some of the nickels had album toning and some were bright. Still not a blink on my part. image. After putting them on the Bay I decided that some of these should go to PCGS for grading.

The 1941-S looked like a candidate so I pulled it out and realized it was a 1939 (rev of 1940). mmmmm that was strange and the '39 was bright. I looked closer and realized about 15 coins were bright and the rest had original skin. I still did not check the dates or mint marks. I sent in a couple more and got some decent grades.

So today I am checking out the rest, In place of the '39 was a 1941. Could be a mistake, but there was not 1941-S. Then I picked up the Cherry Pickers guide 4th addition and realized that several of the coins were replaced not just from the guide, but most likely the higher grade or FS Jeffs.

When purchasing always get a good return policy, check and double check the coins you receive. It took 4 years and a lot of ready on the board before I realized that I got duped by a seller.

Be Wise and aware. If you want pictures of the set let me know.

    Hi

Not to be rude, but are you trying to say that when you bought the set that you never looked at the coins?? To me, just a quick look to check for nicer coins would have revealed the fact that not all of the dates were in the book. I guess I am confused since you said you sent some in to be graded, and you still didn't notice the problem?
