Selling on teletrade vs ebay

Teletrade seems to be a good way to sell vs. Ebay. I have only sold through Ebay but sent some coins out today to teletrade, I guess the downside is slow cash vs. faster cash. With the fees being nearly equal when it is all said and done and less hassle with Teletrade (shipping, collections, etc.). Thoughts? If you have coins from the same date is it advantageous to spread them out or just sell all at once or in a short period of time? Do dealer/investor lots do well or is it better to part them out?

teletrades parent company in trouble with stamp pyramid scheme in Spain

TT is good but not for coins worth less than say $30 - min buyers fee and shipping keep bids down for these

reserves are good idea but can be costly

like you said lots less effort sending to TT, but about 2 months for cash in hand, and then any returns/relist add a month

I sold a few things on Teletrade. SLOW cash and their communications with the seller is not the best.

It took 4 weeks to get my coins on and 6 weeks to get the cash. They listed my coin wrong and would not change it. So, I stick to buying on Teletrade, not Selling.

If you want to details just PM me.

I tried Teletrade a couple of times. The images they did sucked, they added no descriptions, the prices realized were low, and it took too long to get paid. I'll stick with eBay where I have total control.

It takes really long to get your money when you sell on Teletrade - it can take 45 days. I asked them if I could use the funds from sales towards future purchases (instead of them sending me a check) but they didnt go for that. But you might get more money than you will on ebay.

On ebay you have the listing fee, a reserve fee (if you have one), a featured fee (if you use this) - then you have the final value fee. You also might have a paypal fee. I haven't done the math but if you dont need the money right away Teletrade might end up giving you more bang for your buck (whatever the hell that means).

Don't get me wrong - eBay is ideal in many ways - its so easy and very convenient. And, drawbacks aside, you gotta love PayPal when you have the funds instantly in your account. It's a great way to get funds very fast.

Avenues such as the CU BST board can be the best bet. You can save money by bypassing "fees" and pass some of the savings to the buyer... I realize that most BST posts consist of "I have a coin on ebay" which isn't exactly the ideal setup there....

There's no free lunch. As a seller I feel I do a little better on eBay, but remember, you have to do all the work.

I also prefer to control the images and description myself, as opposed to farming that out to some underpaid schlock at TT.

But given that “time is money”, it’s hard to say if it is really worth the effort. Selling on eBay can be time consuming.

I've wondered about this too. I sold some coins on e-bay but had a very negative
experience with PayPal (new account freeze). So I closed PP and am looking
for alternatives. I've purchased from TT and they
seem to be on schedule as far as shipments. I guess they hold on to the funds
    in case of returns?

I think they hold on to the funds so they can make money on your money.

    Good for you.

I have Sold on both of them and still go back to E-bay. As said before, if it is under $30.00 I would save the time
and sell on ebay rather than TT. I have bought on both and prefer TT. The shipping is very quick and no hassels.
I have made better buys on TT just do to the fact that if you put reserves on them, it can be costly to the seller.

For the best sell and buy....... Sell on the BST Board. Lots of great deals and EVERYONE I have dealt with
has been A++++++++++++++++++++. To many names to list.

Teletrade is easy. The images are so-so and the buyers are overwhelmingly bargain hunters if you ignore the tone freaks. So easy has to be qualified by the inability to get the best prices. It probably is a good dumping ground for overgraded PCGS and NGC slabs where you want to be more anonymous than you would be on eBay. eBay is also loaded with bargain hunters but also redbook pricing newbies who will take a seller's raw grade or a fly-by-night TPG slab tag as correct without question in some cases. (Saw one a little earlier that was sickening.) I haven't sold on eBay but have judiciously bought there for many years. There are the right coins for both and both represent a crazy level of final bid risk not seen in big firms' auctions as much.

Worst thing about eBay is if you want to be assured of a minimum sale price for your coin/item, then you have to use the two least popular among buyers [and more expensive for you too] listing venues, namely a high opening bid or set a reserve. To put it up at 1 cent and Let R Run can be risky.

Teletrade has always been a dumping ground for overgraded stuff.

It is the venue for 70s, though, if you're into that. You can usually pick those up with less competition than you get on Ebay.

By the time they wait for all payments to clear and returns to be processed it could well take 5 or 6 weeks.
